Default Car at Upfitter

Just contacted the customer server to check on the status of my C7 VIN#0040. It moved through the process very quickly as was expecting it to be delivered anytime now to my dealer.

When asked what the status was and when it would be delivered she stated:
"At this time, your vehicle has been produced. It is at an Upfitter Center in Nashville, TN. It goes to an Upfitter if there has been components that were chosen that the plant is unable to put on. It arrived there at 9/16. There is no an estimated time of arrival to the dealership at this time. Your VIN is going to be 1G1YC2D76E5100040."

I am not sure why I would need to put at an Upfitter. I don't think I had anything special on my car.
C7 - non-Z51
Torch Red
2LT w/Kalahari interior
Manual 7-speed
California emission
License plate bracket
Exhaust Dual Mode
Navigation System

Any ideas?

That is interesting information. Looks as if their was a delay in the JIT causing a shortage of one of the components and they had to move the cars out of Bowling Green for temp storage to empty the lot at the factory, to keep the assembly line moving.

It could be something very minor, but they can't ship the car without it and have the dealer install it later. Who knows what the component might be!!!!!!!!!!

That would be priceless if they had to transport it to an "upfitter" to install the plate bracket.

Some mod for California emissions perhaps? May have not wanted to slow Assembly by messing with it and farmed it out, nothing else would really make sense.

Could be that the supplier of the bracket screwed up. But the bracket is in a plastic bag and is shipped in the rear compartment of the car, to be installed by the dealer or the owner after he takes delivery.

Could be something that is common to all cars but there was a shortage so some cars were built without it. Maybe the carpeting in the rear hatch or a decal that goes under the hood, or the battery. Who knows.

It doesn't have to be anything special nor does it need to be a problem Per se. Let's say for example, the plant had a problem with a piece of equipment that bolts down the passenger seat. They may build the car without the seat and install it later. If something like that happened at during launch and ramp up, they wouldn't have the ability to stop. They wouldn't have the resources to deal with it after the fact depending upon how many cars were affected. They could contract with someone to install the seats on a number cars that were affected. Just as an example of a situation that could result in an interim stop.

I bet most of the produced cars have been placed at an upfitter lot. They like dissappeared, some shipped cars should have arrived at a dealer by now.
