I set my insurance up to start the day I take delivery Oct 1st from the museum. Today I go and finalize my transaction at the dealer. Being a museum delivery newbie it never hit me that my car might sit at the museum 11 days. I probably should call my insurance agent Monday and have him make the policy effective now.

The car is GM's responsibility until you actually "own it" You will be required to have insurance as soon as sign all the paperwork.
Yes, you should start the insurance as soon as the paperwork is competed.
I would think the museum would have insurance to cover any damage if it happened while on their site. Understand the concern but I bet your safe for now.
No worries. It is not your car until you sign the papers. Even then, you should be covered under your present policy for 14 to 30 days after purchase.
When in doubt, e-mail your agent.
Happy driving and enjoy your new baby.
I am sure the museum has insurance to cover any loss that may occur while the car sits there. All the drool the car may have once you pick it up: When my car arrives I will have the insurance put on the car the day I pick it up which is required. Enjoy your car.

Yes but I'm sure most states do a insurance check as soon as a car is registered. I know here in Virginia they do and they get nasty if you can't prove it was effective the date you purchased it.

She, Do They Make Other Cars, is here in Texas. Here in Texas when you buy a new car your new car is automatically covered by your existing policy for up to 21 days.
Of course, I would not suggest that you wait that long. In fact, I would simply fax/email the invoice to my agent while at the dealership. He or she can add it almost immediately.
In California a signed contract doesn't mean anything until you actually drive off the lot with the car. Any point before that you can back out of the deal if something were to happen.
