Fitzpatrick still beleives that you can "inspect" quality into a product - that's 50's thinking!
Why would you amass over 1,000 units before you start an in process quality check? I dsoubt that is in their ISO manual.
He acknoledges problems with the tracking system, yet in over 3 months still has not resolved a simple software issue!
Putting covers on the cars, loading on transports, shipping off site to Nashville, unloading, uncovering to do a quality check, recovering, reloading on transports and finally shipping off to dealers. Now that should put a LOT of unnecessary wear and tear on the vehicles!
I spent my entire career in manufacturing, and the only time we sidelined a shipment of a finished product for additional inspection, was because of a quality problem that was already identified. We never held up a shipment to a customer on a whim that maybe something is wrong with the product.

I originally thought his statements made sense and gave me some piece of mind...but the more I thought about it the more I agree with you, from what we can tell all the vins going to Nashville are low #'s and like you said now cars are being shipped very quickly after production while we all sit in limbo.

The way I read it they found a potential gap in the QC process that could lead to issues. They've corrected the process and are now checking the cars that had already gone through the old process.

This may be true and does make sense....but if that is all it is then a time frame should be relatively easy for them to come up with. That's really the most aggravating part of this IMO.

They probably detected a QC issue and corrected it. Annoying for those impacted by it but they are doing the right thing. Better then the old way of being aware of the problem and selling it anyway without addressing it, then issuing a TSB or recall.

The Ford Pinto deadly cover-up being the most egregious I am aware of and cost Ford over 100 million dollars in a single punitive damages award.
