Default Back Up Camera

I'm curious, when you get close to something backing up does the car beep? Mine hasn't but maybe I haven't gotten close enough to anything yet.

I never read any where that it does give sound warnings and I never noticed those little round sensors on a C7's rear. If I was you, I would use a kid's sidewalk chalk to mark off increments every 6 inch out to about 10 feet on the ground starting behind the rear facade. Then get in your C7 and put the car into reverse without moving. Take note where each chalk mark lines up with the camera view hash mark.

I would bet the red lines in the picture above represent how close you would let the car get to something before stopping. I bet the red line is about two feet from the bumper.

The car maks sort of a 'CRUNCHING SOUND' if you get too close to anything, (on either end, or either side.) Try to avoid hearing it at all costs because it's going to cost a lot of money to fix it.

I'll check, but given that the bottom of my license plate is visible in the camera, I think the red line is about 6" (or less) from the bumper.

Stop at the red line. It's very accurate.

While I don't have a C7, and I have not seen any on the roads around me, but if this is correct then I'm really disappointed with GM's version of rear view camera features. You can get a $25,000 MSRP Ford and it not only shows what is behind you, but it sounds alerts to match the cross lines of the camera, and that is without the blind side protection option which alerts you to side traffic coming.

Put a 2 liter coke bottle behind you, back up on it with how far you think it is to touch it. The get out and look. Now you know the distance it displays....I do it on every new car I buy....

If it is anything like the one in our 2014 Acura, the red box is exactly 12", and each yellow box is 24". It looks like it is marked for 10' total - I think the Acura is 8' marked.
