Default Engine sound management

In the Infotainment screen, there are settings for engine sound mgmt and also steering. Not sure what that is for. Mine is set to auto on steering, and I think same on sound. Can anyone explain?

Thx

From the manual:

Engine Sound Management
This allows the Engine Sound Management feature to be turned on or off.
Select Auto (Mode Selector) or Off.

Steering
This allows the Steering feature to be turned on or off.
Select Auto (Mode Selector), Tour, Sport, or Track.

For the exhaust, Off means that the valves will remain open all the time.

For steering, the feel is changed either automatically or you can choose one mode to stay in. Try them all and see which you like.

It's always loud, so if you have neighbor considerations, it might not be a good thing.

I like the ESM on auto. Occasionally I like to talk to my passenger. LOL

In tour mode the car is super quiet. I generally drive in sport mode.

I wonder if this is just perception or if some are louder than others. I see people posting about how loud it is when open, and for me, while I can tell a distinct difference between open and closed, open obviously being louder; open just doesn't seem very loud at all.

When the motor is cold, the exhaust is loud. When the motor is warmed up or has been running for 5 minutes, the exhaust is pretty quiet. It doesn't matter what mode the valves are in.

This has been my experience over the past few weeks. Starting up the car while it's cold makes a beautiful racket while in sport mode. But starting the car (even in sport mode) after the car has been on for a while and it sounds just like any other car starting up... maybe a tad louder.

A woman at a car meet up was standing right next to the car when I started it and she said, "Oh! It's so quiet." LOL I was in sport mode when I started it.

I had NPP on my C6, and think the C7 is louder. Especially if you start up from cold in Sport mode. This is the main reason I switch to Tour mode when I get close to my cul de sac. I am very satisfied with the NPP. Based on what you've reported, I wonder if something is amiss with your system.

In sport mode, is the exhaust open all the time? I take it that in the touring mode, it's in auto and it does open when needed,, ;-)

Default Billy Boat Exhaust

I just bought my 2014 A6 last Wednesday (2150 miles!) and it is loud. The previous owner installed a Billy Boat FCOR-0610 (after the crossover) system.

Questions:
Are the valves on this system to be controlled by NPP, or is this part of the V4 noise taming?

If so, since this car didn't come with NPP, is there a way to control the valves using Engine Noise Management? Neither ON nor AUTO changes the noise level.

Thanks for any help.

I don't see an OFF option, only Auto (Mode selector) Stealth, Tour, Sport or Track

2016 (and maybe 2015) settings are different (the 2016 manual is wrong). Stealth will keep it the quietest and Track will make it the loudest.

That system only has the AFM valves. Engine Sound Management will have no effect.

so basically you can control your exhaust mode but to keep it open at "ALL" times you need to pull the fuse? is this correct? keeping at track mode and idling will still have the flaps closed? only open when rpms are higher?

Correct. The only way to keep flaps open all the time is pull the fuse.

Yes, this is on the 2016's. My buddy has a 2014 and only has ON/OFF.

I keep mine in Track, my steering in Auto and have my mode selector in Sport.
