I am out of town but I got a text from my wife stating that the dealer had just received a recall on the vette regarding the differential oil level. vin 151.
Note: This is NOT a recall, it is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) only affecting cars in dealer inventories - see post #23 from GMautotech

Reason: TSB, not a recall
Subscribed... Waiting to see if it involves all cars or just Z51s with the diff cooler plumbing (or if it's the fluid for the e-dif). Or just a certain vin# range.
There was a thread a few weeks ago about a guy who had the diff burn up on the way home from the dealer after taking delivery. Turns out there was no oil in the diff at all.
When I sat and watched the mechanic do the PDI on my brother's Z51, he used the word recall regarding the differential oil level. His words were a courtesy recall where it's being checked during the PDI now.
Edit: when I asked him what's involved, he said it's just checking there's enough oil in there.

I can believe a Technical Service Bulleting on it just to make sure it gets checked. I'm surprised that wasn't a part of the PDI anyway.

Hey Bill hopefully not a big problem, otherwise how is she, Mt .View in Spokane has had some problems with his....I am still waiting and still in Nashville....how was the hunting? Mike
That was a differential that didn't have any oil from the manufacturer. Since then, all the differentials are checked in Bowling Green and as part of the PDI prior to delivery. It hasn't happened since and it was a one time issue. The transaxel and differential are assembled units that were supposed to arrive at the factory ready to install and that 'one' wasn't. It's old news and was one unit.
I'm familiar with that situation, it was at the dealer mine came from and I saw the car on the lift and talked with the dealership. As a matter of safety they called back the units they had delivered just to check the differential even knowing that if one of them had gone out without oil they'd have already known about it. It would have only gone a few miles at best. None were found.
Also the customer is happy and to the best of my knowledge has had no further issues after a new one was installed.

The main difference between the two is really simple.
A TSB is simply something that is checked/replaced whenever you bring your car in for service. Or it may simply be new proceedure, addition/deletion in the FSM.
A recall is when the dealer sends notice that there may be/is and issue with the car, and request that you bring it in to be checked/serviced.
The owner will never get a TSB notice, but they will get a recall notice. A recurring issue of insufficient fluid in a differential would warrant a recall. Doesn't mean yours is bad, just needs to be checked.
