Default Noises when shifting

So my car was one of the ones that needed the rear ediff fluid checked. I found about that here so I called GM and they said yes I was one of the ones that needed to be checked (I didn't get an email). Yes my fluid was low, vin 2840 something. This isn't a recall but it's so important I don't understand why don't they do a recall.

Now, is it normal for the M7 transmission to be so noisy when shifting? I hear metal moving around. I recall the car being really quiet for the fist 200 miles (I'm at 1500 now). Chevy says this is normal. It's not so crazy that it's obviously broken and the car drives fine. I'm just wondering if having the rear differential fluid low could've made the car noisy. I wish I could hear another M7 transmission car in Los Angeles.

Thanks in advanced.

call back GM and see if they can arrange for you to test drive a manual trans car to see if there's any difference to yours. if that fails, just remember that you have a full powertrain warranty.

Where are the noises coming from? The rear or the shifter?

I hear these too and am really worried, glad to see this post and know it's not just my car...any luck at the dealers having them hear it?

The service Tech who rode with me heard it almost immediately and declared it was "normal". Although he had never ridden in or worked on a C7, he said that "all" corvette manual trannys make that noise! When I told him that every part except 2 on the C7 were new, he said the transmission was the same old 6 speed with just an addition gear! I gave up after that. My diff was a little low at the same time and he added some fluid to it. The tranny still makes noises that bother me, but I'm going to drive it until it gets worse or breaks.

Sure it is. Also same as the 1950 Powerglide except for 5 more gears and a clutch.

I've read in many places that is actually a pretty accurate description.

Certainly the TR6060 and 6070 are related, but there are some real differences too.

At 5000 miles I have heard no sounds at all from my 7-speed, not even any gear whine ( base model C7).

I would get it checked out. I haven't noticed much in the way of any strange noises. In fact, most say its the quietest Corvette to date

Mine makes a few noises every once in a while. It's Tremec and nothing new. Had these minus 2 gears in several mustangs. Same noises and clunking as those so nothing new.

While I pinpointed a rattle that has been driving me insane, I can say that my M7 shifts like butter and doesn't make any noise that I can hear (knock on wood). The transmissions in my 2013 Mustang GT and 2005 GTO before it were clunky and loud as hell.

Now that it's getting colder outside, I do notice that when my car is cold and I first start out, the gears are somewhat slower to synchronize and the shifter sometimes takes a little longer to fall into its gate, accompanied by some "mechanical feedback" through the lever...not really grinding but resistance. But once warmed up, it shifts like "buttah" with no hesitation, delay, noise or resistance. Mind you, this only takes about 2-3 miles at 40 degrees outside.

In reality, I've noticed this in almost every manual shift car I've ever owned (over 25) except one. That was an NSX, which had the best manual transmission I have ever driven in my life, hands-down.
