Electronically Governed
Eeeeuuuuuuu ..... So I'm reading an article on the front page of the forum : "How fast is the C7 Corvette? Good question. Some say it’s as fast as laws will permit, and that could apply to statutory laws, the laws of aerodynamics, or GM law in the form of the 190-mph speed limiter. We’ve seen the Corvette sneak all the way up to 193 after its 190-mph governor kicked in .... " This stinks imho ....... https://www.corvetteforum.com/articl...nning-186-mph/

Mike, does it really matter? Why does a 190 limit matter other than for bragging rights?
My C6 is theoretically able to do 186. First of all, there aren't many places I could even try to attain that, even if I wanted to.
Also, without several safety mods, I am not foolish enough to even think of trying it.
An occasional non-gearhead person will ask me "What can it do?" My stock answer is I've had it to 130, that was fast enough for me, and that the book says 185 or so. They think even 130 is crazy.

It's the trend I'm worried about Jack. We've never had this issue to deal with before on the corvette. Sure, I'd never drive my C6 all the way to the top. It's just kind of fun knowing the car isn't electronically neutered.

I understand that, but so many cars (including many, many performance cars) have been governed over the past several years, I've been surprised GM has not had to do this earlier.
Japanese motorcycles have had the 186 mph limiter for some time now. My 05 busa and my 09 zx-14 are limited. I disabled the busa limiter. :-) I think its a conspiracy. What's next, engine disablers ?

I'm sure auto makers would loved to indulge you, but too many people do stupid things and then play the Litigation Lottery.
P285/30ZR20 (95Y) SL Michelin® Pilot® Super Sport® ZP
(95Y) indicates the tires have been tested "in excess of 186", so GM is probably just minimizing the excess.
When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.
W 168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
Y 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed.
225/50ZR16 in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h
205/45ZR17 88W 168 mph, 270 km/h
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
Most recently, when the Y-speed rating indicated in a service description is enclosed in parentheses, such as 285/35ZR19 (99Y), the top speed of the tire has been tested in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h indicated by the service description as shown below:
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
285/35ZR19 (99Y) in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h
As vehicles have increased their top speeds into Autobahn-only ranges, the tire speed ratings have evolved to better identify the tires capability, allowing drivers to match the speed of their tires with the top speed of their vehicle.
Somehow I doubt a limit of 190 makes anyone interested in safety happy. It is a limit that has no effect in driving, and may only be in place to prevent a high-gear dyno pull from causing a problem with the tires.
