how do I tell what # in the VIN sequence my car is? the last 4 of my VIN is 4720. does that mean it was the 4,720th off the line?
You are correct that 4720 is your VIN sequence but that does not mean it was the 4,720th car off the line. I believe each vehicle is assigned a manufacturing sequence number and that determines how they come down the line. But I don't think the VINs are too far out of sink with the sequence number. I hope this helps.
No, as GM produces several models with different VIN's. Your car is #4270 meaning that your car is #4720 of that model. A premiere edition has it's own unique VIN and they also start at 00001 and the captured test cars have their own unique VIN that also starts out at 00001. The complete VIN is different as there are other characters in the VIN that are different other then the last five. Therefore, even though they may be three different C7s with identical last five characters, they do not share the same VIN.
If they built, say, 300 captured test cars and 500 premiere editions cars before you car was built, then it is likely that your car was the 5070th C7 built when your car rolled off the line.
