Default USB help

First off, don't jump in my crap about this already being acknowledged. I've searched but can't find anything. Thought I had seen it somewhere but just can't find it....Just picked up my C7 last week.I copied several cds to a flash drive. When I put it in the usb port(any of them) it recognizes the drive and puts up the playlist. But it only plays about 2 seconds of a song which is also garbled then skips to the next song.Anyone else had this problem ?

Thanks for any help.

Maybe put the USB into your computer and try it and see if the songs are garbled there too. If they play ok on your computer, you'd know at least the problem isn't the USB stick itself.

It depends on 2 things - what format was used when you ripped the songs off the CD, and what the filename is on the song itself. If its flac format but named mp3, the system will have a hard time playing it. I found this out when building a USB stick for my 2013 Tahoe.
As Kilsallagh said, put the stick in your computer, if it plays OK hover your mouse pointer on the file. It should give you the format the file is in the detail box, regardless of the name it has.

The USB drive needs to have been formatted with a "file system = FAT32". The songs must be "type of file = MP3"

From the Infotainment Manual page 21:

Playing from a USB
A USB mass storage device can be connected to the USB port.
Audio extensions supported by the USB are:
. MP3
. WMA
. AAC
. OGG
. AIFF
. 3GPP

However, Page 21 continues and seems to disagree with itself about acceptable file formats:

USB MP3 Player and USB Drives
The USB MP3 players and USB drives connected must comply with the USB Mass Storage Class specification (USB MSC).

To play a USB device:

1. Connect the USB.
2. Press MEDIA until the connected device is shown.
- Hard disk drives are not supported.
- The following restrictions apply for the data stored on a USB MP3 player or USB device:
‐ Maximum folder structure depth: 11 levels.
‐ Applicable audio extensions are mp3, wma, aac, m4a, and aif.
WMA and Apple lossless files are not supported.
‐ Supported file systems are FAT32 and NTFS.

Don't knock my tech translation. Just reading the Manual ( & I'm over 60).
