As long as you don't lug or overrev the engine, use whatever gear(s) you want....
Over rev is bad. Take a look in your owner's manual for safe speeds for each gear. Unless you're speed/rpms have dropped quite a bit while in 7th, 4th would probably not be optimum.
I am trying to get used to the 7 speed..When down shifting from highway speed in 7th do you go down to 6th or 4th. Thanks
When I'm in any manual transmission car and I'm coming off the highway I simply leave it whatever gear it was in, until the engine is just a tick above idle speed, and then I put it in neutral as I come to a stop. No need to downshift at all to slow down, that just creates extra wear on the transmission and clutch. I'd rather put that extra wear into a lower cost item such as brakes.

I agree Patman. What's the point in down shifting unless of course there is a Mustang along side of you asking for a little whipping.
