Default Corvette DDs

Went and looked at c7s today and amazed at how awesome they look, but it also got me worried about how I plan to use it.

I am not buying the c7 to take it to the track (it may never see the track), but because I love the way the car looks and always wanted one.

This will be my DD and going out vehicle that will include trips to movies, restaurants (including fast food), and anywhere else I need to go (My wife usually handles most of the grocery shopping but there are times I have to pick things up on my way home from work). I don't have kids and I can't remember the last time I had more than 1 passenger in my vehicle.

I live in Cincinnati so we get some snow but I believe I will be able to avoid it since I can work home a couple days a week as needed and my wife can drop me off at work if I have to go and there is an inch or more of snow forecast. Even though I think I can avoid snow I can't avoid salt and other winter problems. I would plan on switching to some AS tires next winter. Also I am not sure the best way to take care of a vette in the winter that has to deal with salt. Currently a beater is out of the question for the 14 winter but for the 15 winter I will either have more room for a beater or be living in a warmer climate to avoid the problem all together. My wifes car will be what we drive when we have to get out and there is >.5 inches of snow on the road or snow coming.

I was just wanting to get some vette owners opinions that use their car as DD and hopefully some that deal with weather. My wife also had some worries about how comfortable it would be to ride in as she felt she was sitting on the ground and was leaning back further than she expected.

Reasons to not DD it also appreciated, just trying to make a good informed choice

You seem to have looked into it quite a bit and have it worked out. GET IT!!
My wife who is car clueless, came outside when I arrived home with my C7 and her quote was " This car does not look real, OMG". This is after owning a C6 and a 13 CTS coupe.

My 1st car was a C-2, (a 64 convertible.) It was also my daily driver for 6 1/2 years. At that time I lived in New Jersey so I drove in and on snow. I would definitely buy A/S tires for it, and do your best at 'washing' the underside of the car. Best of luck!

I have had none as a DD for six weeks. It has been awesome and surprisingly civil as DD.

I live in Columbus, Indiana, about 100 miles east of you. My 2012 GS is my daily driver. It's fine 99% of the time but..

- When there's poor visibility, like heavy rain it seems that other drivers have a hard time seeing me next to them. Have to be careful about lane changers, more so than usual.

- When it's cold (below 40 degrees F) have to be VERY careful with the summer tires, if you still have them on your car. Can break traction in the blink of an eye.

-Obviously I don't drive it in the snow. And I avoid the slush/salt for a couple of days after a snowfall.

Hope this helps, a little.

I live in South FL, so I don't ever deal with cold weather. so I can't comment on snowy roads etc. However I can comment on plenty of heavy rain.

I DD my C5 Z06. I must admit that car isn't as smooth as a C7. it feels stiffer, louder and more brute. I take it to work and back everyday though. The few things I don't like about DDing this car is that it's very low and not the easiest to car to get in and out of. the doors open so damn wide you need to be careful where you park. Also having a manual for a DD is not fun.

When we go places, we tend to take the wife's car (which was a '11 maxima, and now a '13 G37) It's easier to drive, it's quieter and just a good all around great everyday car.

HOWEVER, I took a ride in a C7 and that car felt as normal as any other car. and that was a Z51 which had the slightly stiffer suspension.

I think once we get this C7, we will have no problems taking the car out as an everyday car.

I do get groceries in my car, and it fits.... I already have bunch of stuff int he trunk. It could fit 2 small luggages too I think. (the C7)

The only main drawback was the fact that it's a 2 seater and we want kids... we looked at the ZL1 which is a very nice, powerful 4 seater. but I just can't do it when the C7 cost the same and offer so much more (and a brand new generation vs last year generation car)

the car handles great in the rain. I never had an issue with it. very very heavy rain too.

My C6 was my DD and now my C7 is my DD. I live in Florida, so I only deal with heavy rain and snowbirds. The snowbirds are the worst. They seem to drive about aimlessly, changing lanes without looking and generally being a major pain. Makes enjoying the Vette and Harley difficult.

When I saw double "D's" in the post title I was thinking this might be a different post.

Make it your DD!! Enjoy it on the road. If you want to see museum pieces, they have a Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY.

Sounds close to my history. My first was a new '67 roadster which I drove as my one and only car it Pittsburgh. We had a lot of snow, hills, etc. Properly equipped with winter tires, it did fine almost every day of the year. And my C6 is a DD today in the Chicago 'burbs. I do have Michelin A/S tires for the cold weather months.

The C7 with its Weather mode will do fine. A/S tires for the winter months, and respect what you are doing with your right foot, and you will be good with rare exception.

Oh, mine is washed frequently, including underneath in the winter months. At seven years and 48,000, it still looks like new.

I've been driving Corvettes for the past 23, almost 24 years, as DDs.... I have more than 600,000 miles in Corvettes as DDs. While I kept my C6 I replaced it as my DD with a 25-year-old Ferrari a few months ago.

These things are just cars, enjoy'em...

My 2000 C5 was a daily driver for 13 years and 110,000 miles. Now I have the C7 as a daily driver. Smoother ride, more luxury and entertainment features. Plenty of cargo space in these for running errands and shopping.

The only thing my significant other doesn't like is that the seats are not made for leaning back and sleeping on long car trips. And with the new bolsters, it's hard to even rest a pillow against the window and lean against the door for a nap.

The C7 is infinitely more sure-footed in the rain than the C5 was. No personal anecdotes about snow however.

This thread sucks! The title is misleading and extremely disappointing. I was totally expecting to see a set of Double D's posing with the Corvette in a photo shoot!!

Double D was not available. Will this do as a lesser alternative in the meantime?

Drive it every day. Drove it to work in the rain the 2nd day I owned it. Paid a lot of money for the 3LT, need to be driven to enjoy that investment. This car puts me in a good mood every day.
