Sooo, usually I just use discover for 1% cashback. Typical CC bill is 3k a month, throw everything on it and pay it off monthly. Looking to get some extra cashback for my upcoming C7 purchase so went and got the Capital one GM card. Questions:
How much cashback can you use towards a C7? Does it make a difference if its the gofast version? (Zo6 or Zr1)
Is it something you just throw at the end of the deal? IE right before paperwork signed say "Oh, btw, I'm using these points"?
I've used the GM card for years. If you have an old card, you can get $500.00 per year up to $3,500. If you have one of the newer cards I believe you are limited to $1,000. I have saved over $9,000 over the years. Great deal.
I've had my GM Mastercard for well over 10 years. Iam going to get $3,000 off my new C7 when she arrives. I have accumulated almost $8,000 points on the card but they limit you to $3,000 on the new C7. You have a 5 year window and then the points on a monthly basis start to dissapear. I guess it gives you a strong incentive to not only use the card constantly but also buy a GM product when you need a new vehichle. My wife drives a Tahoe and we saved $3,000 on that as well.

I have used points both on my '13 427 convertible, and on our new C7. I told my dealer when the paperwork phase started. (No paperwork done on car until it went to status 3000, scheduled for production.). At that time, the $680 worth of points I had accumulated were thrown in along with the $1000 deposit as down payment on the paperwork. It takes the dealer only a few minutes to find out and apply your point balance.

Also, from time to time your point total with be rounded up. For example, when I had 600 points my account was rounded up to 1000. I now have 1800 and it will get past 2000 soon, then hopefully it gets rounded up to 3000 by next spring when I purchase. You can usually use the points on top of any other incentives like dealer amounts and GM employee discounts; sometimes there are Corvette owner loyalty bucks as well. If all the stars line up correctly next April-May I should be getting close to $12k off a C7....fingers crossed. Then again, if I happen on a dealer lot and I see the car I want before then, I may just say 'hell with it' and do the impulse buy.
With the newer card you can apply up to 3000 dollars towards a 2014 c7. The 5% of purchases is how you get these points. It accrues monthly and is applied at the time of invoice by your dealer. I was able to apply 1300 dollars towards my invoice.
There are several versions of the GM Card. Currently they have their latest iteration of the GM Card, the Extended Family Card, and a Business card. They all have varying amounts in terms of how you earn dollars, if you can apply to a GM employee or supplier deal, if you can get cash back, expiration of earnings.
The original GM Card (and some of us still have them) accumulated earnings at a 5% clip, but was limited to $500/year and expired after 7 years. But a benefit is that the amount you can apply is uncapped.
The latest GM Card (if you apply for one today) doesn't have an expiration date for your earnings, and accumulates earnings at 5%, but only for the first $5000 of how much you spend. Then it declines to 2%. And there's a cap on how much you can apply. As others have posted, it's $3k on a 2014 Stingray.
I use the GM Card to my $500/year limit . . . saved $3.5k on my '09 Z06 and a similar amount on my '00 Tahoe.
I've used 13k so far in total.
Used to allow 1k/year up to 7k total. I took $5200 off a silverado years ago.
Now mine is 500/year up to 3500. I'll be at 2400 for my year soon and plan on using that on a 2015.
Make your best deal and the dealer makes a simple phone call to confirm your earnings total.

$1,100.00 was applied towards my 2014 Corvette purchase. Dealer handles all paperwork. All you do is sign a form assigning your accumulated points to the selling dealer. Great deal. Used it towards purchase of my 2008 Corvette as well. With Kerbeck offing $2,000 off MSRP + GM card credits, saved $3,100.00 off MSRP.
