Default won't go in reverse

A nice day (above 40 deg) in the northeast, so I took my manual C7 base model out for a bit. It's been so cold I haven't really been able to take it out. Only 100 miles on the car and I've had it for a month. Great drive. After a bit I heard a loud rattle from the right front of the car. Started heading home. Lasted for a few miles and then just disappeared. Car was still driving great. Made up some excuse to go for another drive this afternoon. After a few miles the service engine light went on so I drove home. Tried to park in the garage, but the gearbox now won't let me put it in reverse.

Anyone had this happen or have any thoughts ? Will of course call service in the morning, but maybe this has happened to someone else...

Thank you.

Did you try putting the car in reverse with the engine off and then with the clutch pressed in, see if it goes in reverse after engine start?

I was finally able to put in reverse using a LOT more force that I have had to in the past. This was independent of whether the car was on or not. The engine light is still on. Something's not right. I'll take it in and we'll see. Thank you for the suggestion.

Did you try cycling through the gears at a stand still prior to putting it in reverse? Sometimes going into the gear opposite of reverse (7th) can help line the gates up in a manual trans.
That said, given the check engine light I would suspect that something has gone array.

that's exactly what I finally did and then with a lot of force it went into reverse.
thank you

Hi fasa,

Our apologies! We never like to hear things like this, especially on a new vehicle. Have you called your service center, or taken it in yet?

Put the shifter in the reverse position, lightly ease of the clutch while guiding the shifter in to place. Give it a try.

I'm probably giving advice that most (or all) know here, but your trans has synchos on gears 1-7, but R is NOT synchro'd. If the teeth on the R gear are in line with the teeth of the internal engagement shaft, the linkage can not engage the gear. As themonk stated above, lightly slip the clutch while you are selecting R and the gear teeth will slip into the opposite cog. Using excessive force will only wear/damage your linkage.

I'm guessing, but would put money on it being Reverse lock out solenoid.

Not a lot of money mind you, but a couple of bucks.

5 different codes came up which they addressed. All seems to be OK as of now, thought was only able to drive it a short distance home due to weather. Hopefully that's the end of that .

Thanks for the update. Happy to hear that everything seems to working as it should, and they were able to address each concern. Please let us know if there is anything else we could assist with.
