Hey, with the reveal of the Z06 today and the surprising 625 HP, do you guys think a ZR1 will drop within a few years? I'm not quite sure what they would do for that, to beat their current Z07 package it would have to basically offer over 700 HP, which I'm not quite sure is quite likely.
Any ideas/rumors on this? First post on forum and I couldn't find any related threads via search.
I would say yes, expect something lighter/faster/more track oriented later.
What they are doing with the z-28 shows you what their mindset is right now. I can not imagine them building a car like the z-28 without doing something similar for the corvette.
I cant see a good business case for a ZR1 version....
.Market is too small ....and any improvements over the z06 would be incremental at best....More power is useless if you cant hook up....And it would be pretty hard to improve the handling further w/o using exotic materials for weight reduction.....
In other words, who would pay 30% more for a car which is 5% (if that ) better on paper, in terms of handling / acceleration/ braking....?... I wouldnt....

I agree - the base Z06 replaces the C6 Z06, and the Z07 replaces the ZR1. Everything the C6 ZR1 offered is on the new Z07 version. In addition, by the time the SAE rates the engine, I'm guessing the HP will be 640-650. More HP than C6 ZR1 and probably more than anyone really needs.
To go higher in USABLE HP, they probably need to go to AWD. The best way to do this would be a hybrid approach, like the Porsche 918. If someday there IS a ZR1, my guess is it will be an AWD plug-in hybrid using regenerative braking to charge the batteries and power the front wheels.
Nope... lots of speculation in the press that because the Z06 is SO good, GM doesn't intend to have a ZR1. If the ZR1 was coming, the Z06 would have not been as capable.
My opinion... Stingray, Z06... then a C8. No GS or ZR1 and a shorter life cycle time.
I would think it ends at Z06 for mass production. But they might release a very limited edition at the end of the lifecycle as a result of racing R&D. Mostly to deny Vipers bragging rights. That's what I would do anyway. Call me the armchair General Motors... lol

Being they will have two levels of the Z06, Z06 & Z06+Z07 package, however, I see at least a 5 year cycle for the C7.
From: Calgary, AB. There's a reason why white was the only color offered on every year Corvette. Proud Canadian German Jamaican!

I think the ZR1 will be on a hiatus for a little while, really, how are you going to top the Z06, there's only so much you can do to a car before it becomes too impractical or expensive. Unless GM wants to target the likes of the Aventador or MP4-12C I can't see it for a while.
The C7 Z06 seems to be the C7 ZR1 to me. We do not know pricing of the Z06 yet, but what would the price be of a Z that has a lot more performance than the C7 Z06 be? Seems like the price would be so high it would be hard to sell a lot of units.
I am new to the forum. Don't have a corvette, or any performance car, and don't plan to soon. I like that the vette is usually the price performance leader.
I believe there will be a ZR1. It will compete with porsche 918 and the La Farrari. I think they will have close to 900 HP and AWD, 700 from LT4, and adding Volt plug-in tech. It will be ~150k.
Plus, it would be foolish marketing to launch the Z06 and the same day hint that there's a higher performance version looming on the horizon. They want to sell the Z06 first and get some customers, then convert a good number of them into sales for the next tier car..
There's only 2 reasons to bring out the Z06 after just 1 year, prop up sagging sales which clearly is not the case, or to have time to get in the ultra premium model before the end of the product cycle which is said to be just 5yrs for this generation.
