Default Decisions...

Ok, I've about got the options sorted out and I'd like to go get in line and wait for mine... Still having a bit of a time deciding between chrome wheels and the black and the carbon fiber top with surround.

I like the black wheels, (and not just because they're cheaper...) but I can't help but wondering about dirt and more importantly, nicks to the finish. Chrome on aluminum is still silver but black on aluminum is, well, black on silver. Seems like it could be a problem.

As to the carbon fiber roof and those among you who have one - how do you like it and is it totally opaque?

Comments and thoughts welcome.

Thanks,

Greg D.

I'm not a fan of black wheels. If the outer rim was chrome of silver it would look much better. I think the chrome wheels are awesome, just not $2000 better looking than the standard wheels.

Good luck in choosing. I was dead-set on a coupe, now I'm torn between the coupe and vert.

I saw one of our members has black wheels that are already chipped. Chrome is more durable, silver standard. I went with the silver. I had polished aluminum on my C6, they didn't show abrasion. May sound strange but I am already thinking the next Corvette. I have kept options to a minimum (2LT, navigation).

Just one guy's opinion, but I find the standard silver painted wheels to be BY FAR the best looking, whether Z51 or not.

I like the machined face wheels on the Base car, but nowhere near enough to pay the $1,495 for them.

Black wheels are very hard to maintain... I like the silver wheels too because the chrome wheels seem over-priced to me. You can always have the silver wheels PVD coated as a winter project for less money then the chrome wheel option and they will be much more durable and very easy to maintain.

I have the silver Z51 rims on my black car and it was a better choice than chrome...at least for that color.

Greg, the visible carbon fiber top with the body color surround is definitely opaque.

Have fun with your order and enjoy the journey. You will LOVE this car whatever you order.

I have had polished and chrome wheels on my previous C6's, saw the standard silver wheels in person on a C7 and really liked them, especially compared to the black wheels. If you are able to, see the options in person before making a final decision.

I ordered my Z51 with the base silver painted wheels and am going to have them locally powder coated comp grey

(comp grey looks great and hides brake dust really well)

I assume you are getting the Z51 Package. Order the base "no cost" Silver Painted Wheels. They look better in person, believe me.
If you don't like them, you can either get them Powder Coated Black of do an Chrome exchange for less than GM will charge you for either option. You can even Plasticoat the Wheels for next to nothing if you are leaning towards Black.

My personal experience. My C7 came with the stock Silver Wheels. The first thing I planned to do was to Powder Coat them Black since I have CGM Paint and Carbon Flash Mirrors and Spoiler.

As soon as I saw the Car, my plan for the Wheels evaporated. If I get the itch, I will try the Plasticoat route first since it is reversible. So far, no itch.

I'm doing the rest of my planned Mods first which will include Series I RPI Side Skirts and their Engine Compartment Dress Up Kit in Red.
I already have the Red Calipers and Adrenaline Red Interior with Comp Seats, so the contrast of CGM, CF and Red should look good.

Same here.

I have Black Wheels on my 911, they have the silver outer rim that makes them look much better IMO. That said I already bought replacements, the swirls and nicks they get sucks, they are dirty 5 miles after you clean the car. I will never buy Black wheels again. I would get stock, save the $2K they charge for Chrome and invest it in aftermarket rims.

I also am not a fan of the Black Mirrors, Wing, or Roof. On certain colors it looks OK, but overall I like the Solid Colors better.
