The picture with the black wheels and the red stripe on the outside look a lot better than all black.

I love the black wheels on the white. The rest of the colors, not so much. I order my NRB Z51 coupe with the standard silver Z51 wheels. I'll wait to see what CCW comes up with for the C7 and call John for my 3rd set of CCW's.

Black wheels look fantastic on the AW and VY cars, and good on the TR and Silver.

Three years ago I would have told you I would never own anything white, and never black again. In Dec 11, I picked up the motorcycle I have had the most complements on of the 20 or so I have owned. The pictures does not do the colors justice, the bike is Pearl white with gold flake and the black has gold dust in it, with black rims

Shortly after I got a White Range Rover Evoque with all black accents and top.

My AW Z51 LT3 with black wheels was built 1/16/14

I have black wheels because I bought it off the showroom. I was thinking the black would hide brake dust more; boy was I wrong!

Just drive around the block and it's time to clean them again.

But they do look good with the red in my opinion.

Majority of cars trucks I see with them have lazy owners who rarely even dress the tire. Result: black wheel which make tires look grey or milky brown. So the fad continues.

I agree completely - every new car I've had in the last 15 years, after I bought it, I looked for new wheels - to make it unique and also to make the wheel well pop a bit more. Wheels are a separate design exercise altogether and black just negates that area when rolling or from 30 feet away. The saving grace of the z51 black wheel is it's gloss so it looks unique, but we've also learned that's not really worth it long term as chev just used car paint instead of powdercoat gloss or a coating, so it gathers brake dust a lot and scratches easily....I'll pass....

Maybe after market black chrome would be black and still pop. Worth considering.

I'm not really a fan of black wheels but they do look good on certain colors. I do think I would choose the silver painted ones though. If I wanted the chrome or high polished look I would choose something like the CCWs - they will cost a bit more, but they would look fantastic on the car. Even a set of wheels with the machine face look would really set the car off.

When u get ready to sell those black z51 wheels. PM me. I'm interested in both the wheels and tires.

I'm 72 and ordered the black wheels on my cyber gray coupe with black interior. Very stealthy for a cop magnet! I directed the dealer to prep the car very carefully by washing the wheels only with soap and a soft cloth - NO BRUSHES! - because paint is paint and they will start to spider web if abused. I spray Simply Green on them dry to penetrate the brake dust and street dirt/oil, then, after a few seconds, I spray them off thoroughly with water to let the Simply Green do its thing, and dry them with a soft cloth. After 700 miles and several washings, they still gleam like new. Haven't seen any chipping yet. Maybe I'm just lucky. It seems like GM is still improving some form, fit, and appearance items with each phase of deliveries, so maybe they have improved the black painted wheels, too. I picked up my car on 13 Dec 13 as my Christmas present to myself. Very happy with the combination and the car, my 4th Corvette, which followed a ZR1. I've had chrome wheels on my others which made cleaning to a sparkle with a soft brush easy and harmless with great results, but I'll stick with the black unless they fail me.

Oh well...guess that answered my question. I had the same thought that perhaps black would hide the dust better.

This seems sad to say, but as much as I look forward to owning a C7 at some point, I dread going back to the life of constantly dealing with all the brake dust. That's the one single thing I haven't missed a bit from C6 ownership.

AlloyGators are now available from Trunk Monkey Parts

Perfect for contrasting the black wheels, or just for protection from curb damage

When I bought my Z 51 she came with the painted silver, I was able to score a set of Z 51 chromes from a member here on the forum. Knowing the silver wheels were worthless I had them powder coated gloss black with the intention of selling them, which I eventually did. At the same time I was having some boat parts coated in the carbon fiber dipping process. When I went to pick up the boat parts there was a gentleman picking up a set of BMW wheels, similar in shape to my Z 51's that had been carbon fiber dipped in the gloss black/bright silver pattern. Had I been aware this process was available prior to buying chrome and painting silver, I would have been all over that finish on my wheels.

Years ago, I liked black wheels because of their exclusivity. But now, when I see a prius or kia with black wheels, I know that the thrill is gone.
