I'm having an issue figuring out what GM is planning with this new line of C7 vettes. The thing is they offer the base C7 starting at around 55k and now we have the C7 Z06 which puts up ZR-1 numbers and they will not be producing the ZR-1. So in the previous generation we typically had the guys who could afford the base vette, the guys that could afford more and jumped up to the Z06 and then the guys that could afford the almighty ZR-1. If GM is only offering the C7 in base and Z06 options where's the middle man car? I don't think you can satisfy both the typical Z06 and ZR-1 owner with one car...
base C7 - coupe & convertible
Z51 - - coupe & convertible
Z06, Z07
The new C7 Z06 lives in another galaxy compared to the C7 Z51..I'm asking about a car that can bridge the gap a little...and I'm not necessarily talking about a number of choices but rather a mid performance model...there could be 10 trims in convertibles and 10 in coupes...still no middle car. Oh and what is this Z07 you speak of? I must have been living under a rock when that came out.
Never announce your end game.. By staging the Vette releases, they get the crowd that likes to purchase latest/greatest.. If they announced a ZR1 now, folks may be non-commit on Z06..
Similar to last year, would people that bought 2014 have waited if they knew there was going to be a 2015 Z06?

At the highest level, the available Z07 Package adds even larger winglets to the front splitter, along with an adjustable, transparent center section on the rear spoiler for track use. With this package, the Corvette Z06 delivers the most aerodynamic downforce of any production car that GM has ever tested.

Okay gotcha so it's an aero package not another model car...yes I noticed the transparent spoiler with the adjustable slots...cool stuff...thanks.
Middle vette will be a Grand Sport. Probably coming in at around 500 hp
That would make sense but the GS option will cost more then it did with the C6 that's for sure, but it would answer my question as to the mid range car.
I hope for the middle model to be a grand sport or similar again. Wide body similar aero tweaks, no carbon brakes but hope this time a middle engine maybe a stroke job to the LT1 giving a little horsepower but lots of torque jump. Also be available in Inferno Orange.

How are you sure that a Grand Sport option would cost more? You might be correct, but I don't think anyone has a crystal ball. Also, how are you sure there will not be a ZR1? I think you are making a lot of assumptions. It is great to have opinions and educated guesses on what might happen, but the truth is that no one knows. GM may even have plans one way or the other and those may not come to fruition.
They are selling a ZR1 for the Price of a Z06 (or fully loaded Z51).....what's not to like?
If that's the case then yes, previous C6 Z06 owners will be happy but I think the ZR-1 boys who like to spend 120K on their vettes and be the top dog will be looking for more...that's my point...I don't think you can satisfy both demographics with one car. And we don't know what the price will be...if it's 90-100K+ then the reverse will be true, previous ZR-1 guys happy and previous Z06 owners left with the Z51 and not happy...unless they come out with a mid range car...

As for the GS option costing more, my comment was based on another members comment or guess that the middle car will be a GS and will come in at around 500hp...the C6 GS does not have any performance upgrades over the base C6 as far as HP, only wider fenders, tires, bigger brakes etc....if a new C7 GS has 40+ HP over the base it's indeed an educated guess that the option will cost more then it did with the C6 cars if engine HP enhancements are involved. As far as no ZR-1 I thought I read in another thread that GM announced there will be no ZR-1, even if that is true I realize there is politics involved and GM might have something up their sleeve but there's nothing wrong with speculating what they are thinking or planning thus I created this thread. Hell I'm not even in the market for a base C7 I just like to talk vettes
