I hope they do not do this. Porsche did it, not quite the same, but by putting out the and Cayman (sp?). The similarity in looks to a 911 is too close for non aficionados to detect.
The C7 already has enough $ room between the base model, the 3LT package, the Z51 and now the Z06 to allow the average enthusiast to purchase one without going bankrupt.
It's bad enough they make the 1LT now they want a cheaper model?
Wow. You think that having a 1LT priced at $52K is bad? Are you just afraid that a decent number of people might be able to afford one. If you want exclusivity, go by something other than a Chevy. I'm not sure $45K is that great of a price point. It seems like it would be better to get a price in the low $40's for there to be enough differentiation in price between the current base car and the newer low cost car. I think it would be great if they came out with a low $40's car. That said, I doubt it will happen.

The Cayman is a great car. It is awesome that Porsche put that car out. It put a great looking and great handling car at a price point where a lot more people could afford it. I don't see that as a negative.
From the start, the C5 was to have a "Billy Bob" version. GM discovered that it upset the people that purchased the more expensive models, thus they shelved it before it went into production. They did come out with another version that wasn't the full "Billy Bob" called the Fixed Roof Coupe, and it didn't go over that well either even though it wasn't a stripper model.
They then made the fixed roof car into a high performance model called the Z06, upped the price big time(just the opposite of the "Billy Bob" car), and it was an instant success.
If true, this is a very dumb idea. This would be all about trying to increase the # of units sold, while mortgaging the brand.
The C 7 is my first Corvette. I have had some very nice rides. But I have never owned a car that commands attention like the C7. It is unique and very stylish.......so now let make it "common"........
