Default Ordered My First Vette!

I rode in a brand new 78' Corvette Pace Car when I was 9 years old and have wanted a Corvette ever since. I finally have the opportunity and means to buy one and went to my local Dallas-Fort Worth dealer of choice that said I was first in-line to get a Z51 if ordered from them. I went down and ordered the car, put down a meager deposit, he gives me the build sheet and an Offer to Purchase Receipt, and said he would call me with my order number when it is picked up by GM. Two weeks later and a lot of reading since, I really have no clue where I stand, what I should expect, and what comes next... anyone have any input for me or suggestions?

Thanks,

Build sheet? Those are used in the factory. Did your dealer give you a printout from the GM OrderWORKBENCH? If so, it would have the Order # on it.

I am not sure what this sheet is I am looking at, it says prepared by administrator at the top and says window sticker under the title of the page and shows all the options with the option codes to the left and pricing... Does not show an order number of any kind.

as mentioned above.... that sheet you have isn't the build sheet but I know what you mean.

It has an order number on it. A 6 letter code.

Use that code (along with the state you ordered it in) on the order tracking thread and Chevy Customer Service can tell you where your order stands....

You aren't making any progress if you are at 1100.

At 2000 GM has accepted the order.

Once you hit 3400 it will only be a couple more weeks. (usually... .and assuming they truck your car vice rail)

Good Luck and enjoy the ride!

Apparently, they have not actually entered your order into GM OrderWORKBENCH. You probably have nothing more than a printout of an Excel spreadsheet. Contact your dealer and ask them if they have actually entered the order in GM OrderWORKBENCH. If they have, get a printout of it and it will have the order number on it (and the current order status code). If they have not entered it into GM OrderWORKBENCH, ask them why not? Most likely reason is that they will not enter it until they can match it against an allocation. Some dealers do it that way. Others enter the order immediately. Either way makes no difference on when you will get your car, but having the Order # can make you feel better about it.

Next question - how many allocations do they have for the rest of the model year and where are you on their waiting list. If you don't know the answers to these questions, you could be in for a real disappointment.

Congrats and welcome! I have done the same thing... Ordered my dream car for my 50th... It has been one of the most exciting and most frustrating experiences ever. The day is coming closer and closer and I am just leaving 1100 status now(allegedly). Tuesday will tell for sure. Stick it out and listen to the guys when they mention the allocation thing. Bottom line is that it will be 100% worth it. Good luck Brother...

My husband Ken did a lot of calling around and even canceled an order from dealer in Calif. He finally ordered from Davis Motors in Idaho at below MSRP. It is worth calling around and maybe driving a distance home (the fun of driving you first Vette!) A dealer here in Oregon was charging $19,000 over MSRP because they are so hard to get!
Good luck and you will never be sorry. I had my first Vette when I was 19 and have never wanted anything but a Vette since. Although I have had POSs that I regretted buying like MG,VW fastback etc!

Thanks for all the replies and well wishes, I am desperately excited about getting my Vette!

I emailed the dealer last night and he responded with multiple replies back to me up until 10:30pm... seems like a great guy and told me they have allocations and I am first on his list as soon as a production spot opens for a Z51. I logged in and it shows the right color except the mirrors and spoiler is supposed to be black and is supposed to be black rims but shows silver painted aluminum. I emailed him and just asked that he check the build to verify all options. There isn't anything that reflects a code, I am guessing it is 1100 right now. Anyone that wants to check for me and see what they think, the code is... RNNMS6 and I am in Texas.

Again, I appreciate all you guys, happy to be part of the Vette family soon!

Yes, you will be at 1100 until he gets an allocation that includes any constrained items in your order (like Z51). Your wheel choice is definitely not entered correctly in your order. The tracking website clearly list which wheels are on the order. The website does NOT reflect the Carbon Flash mirrors and spoiler. Here's part of the website from your order (the 2LT) showing the wrong wheels and my order (the 3LT) which does have the black wheels:

Now he says he will verify the order when he gets in the office on Monday, do I get to review the order before they finalize this when it goes to production or should he have already sent me a copy of the order how it is entered? This is all foreign to me, I have never ordered a car before, I have always went to the dealership and bought stock/lot vehicles.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to reply and show me an example.

As I said earlier, you need to get a printout (or screen captures) of your order from the GM OrderWORKBENCH system. It will show all of your options, colors, etc. It is in the best interest of both you and your dealer to allow you to review this to make sure the order is correct (which it clearly is not at this point).

I just emailed the dealer for a screen shot or PDF of the order in the GM Workbench Order system to verify everything is correct and there would be no delay once the allocation is in line and the order is picked up.
