There are a few coatings that help with water/stains, optimum makes one (like opti-coat for glass). In theory, they may help because it adds a very thin/hard clear coat, but I don't think it will protect against a rock chip. I think the only thing that would help with that would be a film, but most people don't put a film on the windshield since they are designed to crumple if hit from the inside (ie your head), and a film would make them much stronger and defeat the design.
Does anyone know if there are companies that make a coating for windshields that protect better against chips, etc?
I was at the Museum in October and talked to a dealer from Texas that was applying something to his customer's car while they were picking it up. Not sure of how good it is, but he gave me a brochure. Send me a PM and I will give you the name of the product.
RainX on the windshield and the additive into your reservoir. Just like the best wax, you're still going to have some build up when it rains. Inexpensive too....unless you're looking to spend money. IMHO, if I were living in Tampa (and since it's snowing up here right now, that's looking like something I should consider) I'd spend on some high grade tint.

OK, your post totally confused me. How is RainX on the windshield and tint on the inside of my windshield (which I have done already) going to help with rock chips?

It may be just my imagination, but newer windshields appear to be more chip resistant than older windshields.
Rain-X has its good points, but it also has issues. To be specific, I find that Rain-X is great in heavy rain. In fog and mist, however, I find that it fogs-up the exterior glass. You may try Rain-X to see how well it works for you. Because the C7 is designed to throw much more air onto the windshield, you may find that it works well. If it does not, then try a quality auto wax on your glass. Water and other liquids will roll off more readily. The wax should also improve resistance to solid projectiles ever so slightly.
I can answer that, since I have already had to have the windshield on my C7 repaired. The repair companies do a pretty solid job of fixing a cracked windshield. Mine was about the size of a half dollar. Up here in the Northeast, it's a wise investment to have a zero dollar deductible for windshield replacements. Over time, with the amount of driving that I do, which is about 30,000 miles per year, I generally have the windshield replaced a short time before I resell the car.
from time to time, there are products advertised that "help" protect windshields. I'd say do a google search on them. of course, there are always the NASCAR-style tearoffs, too.
I bought Opti-coat or something to that effect from Autogeek. It is a polymer. I put it on the windshield and it seems to have some value since I drive 50 miles daily on the interstate. Windshield has been hit by small stones that I hear hit it, but no chips. I doubt it would provide protection from larger stones. It was about $80 for about 3 ounces.
