I was going to go that route when I picked up my C7 from the dealer (a 400 mile drive) but after reading the reviews, think I'll stick with the painter's tape to get her home
I think Paint Defender has potential for certain situations. I applied some to a small area as a test late last fall on my HHR. The shop was quite cool and I didn't give it a long enough cure time. When it went out in the rain and snow (next day) some of it came off, but where it was a little thinner and cured it held up. I am going to give it fair test if spring ever comes this year. I think it will work well for road trips but certainly doesn't replace vinyl paint protection.
Ken, For the trip home I used Roadwrap. It is a clear temporary wrap not to be left on for more than around 7 days. I bought it off Amazon for around $35. It is 18" x 100' so you get a lot of product. It works great. I drove my Z51 home between snow storms so there was a lot of sand on the roads. Some counties use crushed course sand with pieces that are 3/8" that are really abrasive. It really raises hell with the paint. The Z51 tires may not grip in the snow but the rocks really stick and the sound of them hitting the car when I pulled over on the shoulder of a ramp really made me cringe. I did not want any paint defects on a car that I would have to stare at in my shop for the next 5 months. At 70 mph on the interstate the chance of damage is very real. I just threw it on fast, not caring how it looked. Non of it came loose or flapped in the wind on the way home, even at 80 mph. No, it wasn't pretty but it did what I wanted it to do. If you take your time it can be installed so it is hardly visible. There are some bad reviews on the product but I think some users are asking to much of it. It is not permanent clear vinyl paint protection. If it is used as intended I think it works just fine. I have some Suntech paint protection that I will put on soon for long lasting protection.
