OK, so I'm getting together my order specs for the C7. Wth is a battery protection package (other than a $100 add on)? Does anyone know what this includes??

Battery maintainer that plugs into a connection at the rear of the car (Z51). I don't know where it plugs in for a non Z51.

It's a float charger that plugs into your 120 volt wall socket.. Does the same thing(keeps the battery charged) as the $6 float charger you can buy at Harbor Freight.

Yup. IMHO, you have to be crazy to spend the $100 GM wants for the same thing with a C7 logo on it

Let's be fair - it appears to be a CTEK charger, which goes for $65-70 retail with the lighter plug, so you are really only paying $35 at most for the Stingray logo.
Also, the CTEK chargers are regarded as the best in the market right now, so it is not an inferior product.

As little as $35 on Amazon

Then again, I personally own a floater (1.5 amp) I picked up for $30 and used it for years on my C6 (still using it on my wife's Z06).

Technology used is pretty much same regardless of name brand. Just 'cause CTEK has a big market share doesn't necessarily mean it's better (think Betamax versus VHS).

Anyway.. YMMV.......

Just pick up a Black & Decker 6V/12V Battery Charger - Maintainer at Home Depot for $19.95. Comes with lighter plug and clips and works great.

Technically it's the same as a CTEK but the CTEK and Battery Tender are very similar although I prefer Battery Tenders.

CTEK and battery Tender do the same thing. However, CTEK are more expensive.

I bought a BT and have no issues. Whatever you get make sure it can go into float mode instead of being in constant charge mode. Constant charging will destroy the batter. Float mode is the "preserve" mode.

I am not comparing this charger to the BMW Motorcycle branded charger I bought for a new 1600GTL Long story short, the charger would not communicate with the computers on the motorcycle and drained the battery. Roadside had to come pick it up twice. The service manager said, if it had been a non BMW charger, the cost would have been on me. Piece of mind for me if there are any problems in the future.

I've used the Battery Tender for the past eight years and never had a problem with it.
