Default How long does it take?

Since I factory ordered my Stingray last week, I have been pouring over the owner's manuals posted on this site. Man, hundreds of pages of stuff you gotta know...

For those who have already received their C7s, how long did it take you to master all the stuff in the car? Is this going to take awhile?

Good to watch videos on GM site, review manual, but best way is to play with the stuff when you get it (at least that's what I'm going to do). There is an abridged version of manual on Chevy site that is a pretty easy read.

Read the manual, the infotainment manual and the sites , and the car is a breeze. I did not find it hard at all....several windows versions were more difficult to master.

I started reading my manual before my car arrived. 20 or so pages in and my head started spinning and I stopped reading it. Once my car arrived, I dumb thumbed my way through the various menus and frankly the car and it's controls are very intuitive and most of the stuff can be figured out in a matter of moments by exploring things. There are 4 basic control interfaces. One for the HUD on the lower left of the dash that allows you to change the HUD screens and brightness.

One for the gauge cluster display located on the right side of the steering wheel allowing you to change the look of the display in the gauge cluster as well as the information it displays. Push the left arrow on the right side of the steering to access the menu, up or down arrow to access the sub menus and right arrow to access the stuff in the sub menu.

Then you have the drive mode selector to change the driving mode. A twist left or right changes between the various driving modes such as Eco, Tour, Sport and Track. A push in the center enables and disables traction control and a double click access Performance Traction Management in the Z51's with mag ride.

Lastly the infotainment system. Again intuitive enough that you can figure everything out simply by hitting the home button and exploring settings as well as the other functions/interfaces. Once you find something you don't understand, consult the manual or search the forum to figure out exactly what it does. As complicated as it seems, it's actually pretty simple and rather un intimidating.

Start with your basic stuff like setting your seating position in the memory, then explore the settings menu in the infotainment system. The settings menu is where most of your "preferences" are set. Things like how you want the doors to lock when you leave the car or whether you want your seats to return to the memory position when you open the door assuming you are using the Easy Exit feature. There are lots of preference related options in there some of which you would never think of like fan speed for the AC when you turn the AC to auto mode. Some people may like a strong fan whiles other prefer more subtle. Once you start exploring, it will quickly make much more sense. With dual mode exhaust you have the option of having it controlled via the driving modes or having it louder (open) all the time. This feature is also accessed through the settings page.

Again, it may sound complex but it's surprisingly intuitive once you start pushing buttons. Since getting my car, I've consulted my manual two or 3 times to answer a question but that's it. My reading anything in the manual before getting the car was a waste of time for me. I retained none of it without being hands on. Once I got my hands on the car, there hasn't been much if any need for those crazy books!

Thanks for that tip on changing the names of your favorites. I started renaming my presets a little bit ago to acquaint myself with that. I never would have thought you can name your presets. I guess I didn't dig into that submenu. Maybe I should have read my manual!
