Here's my take on the C7's Bose system (10 speaker version w/subwoofer)
#22
I dont know what people are complaining about, i got the 2lt with the subwoofer and love the sound. I had a 2010 camaro ss and that was a crappy sound system. But with the bose system the vette sounds awesome.

"Good" is a very subjective thing. What sounds good to me may sound crappy to the next guy and vice versa.
I started this thread trying to be empirical in my observations and not anecdotal. Apparently I failed miserably

I am one of those people that NEEDS music in my car and NEEDS it to sound good. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of a car's exhaust but when cruising highways I have to have my music. My other issue is I have a sensitive ear for things that don't belong in my music, a slight buzz from a panel vibrating at a specific frequency or boominess from the sub drive me absolutely nuts.
All that said my personal issues typically force me to upgrade audio components pretty quickly. When I get the C7 this year I will tool around with the stock audio system for a while and see if I can live with it, if not I'll likely do what i did to my Titan and gut the stock audio system's 10 speakers and do a simple JL Audio C5 swap for the front door speakers, JL Audio C3's in the rear, with a simple StealthBox setup whenever JL makes one. For the amp, JL's HD900/5 is amazing and is what I use in my Titan. My only concern with the stock C7 audio system is the head unit. I doubt it will be possible to replace the stock unit with aftermarket due to the screen. So hopefully with everything else done, the head unit will produce crisp signals that aren't over processed before even leaving the unit.

I guy who could keep an audio thread empirically based and grounded in science would be talented enough to bring about peace in the Middle East without breaking a sweat
I appreciate your specific empirical observation which is far more useful than the generic "audio sounds crappy" threads. I expect with the Bose system the inflection point and slope for crossover are set in software so it should be something easily fine tuned in coming years if not for current owners.

Over the years I have only had two cars with factory systems that sounded really good, and none of those were Corvettes or Bose systems.
C7 Coupes will be a tough car to do aftermarket because there isn't any place to mount 3 or 4 amps and a 12" or larger subwoofer and still keep the trunk area useable.

Perhaps I have the benefit of hearing loss but once I set the preferences to center point and whatever bose calls their noise canceling (or is it adapting) feature the audio is pretty good. I'd think the most obvious place to make improvements would be in sound deadening to lower the road noise.
I have thousands of my favorite songs on an SD card and none of them sound as good as the V8.

A popular method to create the illusion of bass is to raise the QTS and FS of the driver and create an underdamped system. This will create a kinked response. See the blue line here:

With an underdamped system excursion is severely limited, either with a weak motor, or a stiff suspension. The speaker will create the illusion of bass by having that boost in the upper bass.
Let's look at the older 10" bose which might be the same as the one in the C7, not sure, but definitely closely related:
Re = 0.4625 ohms
Fs = 45.6971 Hz
Zmax = 2.0756 ohms
Qes = 1.2681
Qms = 4.4224
Qts = 0.9855
Le = 0.1834 mH (at 1 kHz)
Diam = 215.9000 mm ( 8.5000 in )
Sd =36609.6161 mm^2( 56.7450 in^2)
Vas = 66.5281 L ( 2.3494 ft^3)
BL = 1.9067 N/A
Mms = 34.7146 g
Cms = 349.4218 uM/N
Kms = 2861.8704 N/M
Rms = 2.2538 R mechanical
Efficiency = 0.4704 %
Sensitivity= 88.7426 dB @1W/1m
Sensitivity= 101.1220 dB @2.83Vrms/1m

What do we see? A very high QTS of 1 and a high FS of 46hz. This driver will sound boomy even in infinite baffle. It is always underdamped and it will get even boomier the smaller the box (or door volume) is. I have no reason to believe the C7 Bose 10" is any different.
So objectively two things are going on. A sever cut at 70hz due to room nodes, and huge boost right above that due to both a weak speaker motor and a very stiff suspension. Not a good recipe for good sound but one that creates the "illusion" of bass cheaply.
