Hey guys/gals, I'm new to the forum and vetts in general. I am looking at purchasing one in the future and would like to get as much info/advice as possible. My first lame brain question:

what is the difference in the z06 and the stingray?

Stingray is the Base Vette and the Z06 is the Supercar Version. They differ in Motor, aesthetics, body, weight, tire size, brakes, handling, etc. They are like totally different animals. One tame (base) and one not (Z06)

Just google the Spec Sheet and you will notice a huge difference.

Also the Stingray we are talking about is a 2014 car (if you don't include the early year Stingrays and Sting Rays) but there have been many Z06s over the years starting with the C5 (or maybe earlier?) Confusing to sort out all the different model years and sub models, but hang around here long enough and you'll be an expert.

You can't. The C7 Z06 is not yet available. It will be a 2015 model when it comes out for sale.

Cheers.

The ZR1 is a C6, which stopped being produced in 2013. There was also a 2013 Z06. There is no 2014 or 2015 ZR1 but there will be a 2015 Z06. When talking about the various sub models it is important to add the year or "C" designation so there is no confusion about what model is being referred to.

There are subtle differences between the C6 ZR1 and C6 Z06 (side vents and hood). There are major differences between the C6 ZR1 and the C7 Z06.

thats because you can not. you can get a z51 in 2014. its difficult to keep all the terms straight--even for the many self-acknowledged experts. ive tried several times to ask the question several different ways, and never get a complete answer. the problem is that sometimes chevy uses a designation to be a model type, other times it uses the same number to be a type of package available.

the oldbies have their own "in" jargon, and it takes more time to learn it than its worth. my free advice--worth every cent--look at the car you want to buy, evaluate what you can or want to pay, and go for it. the history is irrelevant, and the future isnt here yet. otherwise, youll just give the oldbies the opportunity to abuse you because you did not spend your life studying corvette history.

Default "Oldbies??"

I'm a noob to forums and this forum in particular

Doof - I'm trying to like you as a fellow noob....but you make it hard

This is the most positive response on this forum I've seen to a pretty unresearched question....."what's the diff between a Z06 and the Stingray?"

Generally speaking that question would produce a flame fest (learning the lingo!) But a bunch of forum members - non noobs mostly - channeled their inner nostalgia for vettes and happily answered the question referencing corvette history and helping this noob - our fellow noob - (IF you really are a noob) get his feet on the ground

I like this : "look at the car you want to buy, evaluate what you can or want to pay, and go for it" - Really like that doof!!

But then .....turning it into a rant about the "oldbies" and disrespecting corvette history......seriously??? You're creating the crap that you profess to despise
