I tried the Hurst billet shifter in my C5 Z06, but switched to the retro-look shifter built by Core Shifters... It has chrome Hurst stick, Hurst internals in a custom base to fit Corvette, and is a good compromise between short throw and ease to still get into overdrive and reverse gears.
Who was it that had the pics of the hurst short throw shifter that they were going to put in their c7. I trying to find one for my c7
I put a Hurst into my wife's 2001 Z06. I didn't care for it, and she had to use two hands to get it into reverse, so we sold it on eBay. Having progressed from C5 to C6 to C7, I really can't imagine why you would want to screw around with the 7-speed in the Stingray - feels pretty tight to me....
I have had two Callaway short shift systems and they have been great.
Worth it to be able to make that quicker shift than what comes stock.
Check it out on their web-page.

Agreed that the C6 shifter was an improvement over the C5, and the spring loaded Hurst billet shifter is too stiff. I took my Core Shifter unit out and put the stock shifter back in to sell the car, and I could not believe how bad the stock shifter was. The Core-shifter design has no extra spring loading, so it shifts about the same as the stock shifter, but with a shorter throw.
I will definitely drive the C7 with the stock shifter for awhile to see how it feels, but the main reason for changing to the retro-Hurst stick is just because I like the way it looks.

Feels tight?? No it's not!
I put a Hurst in all my cars since 1993. They improved a lot with the billet.
No comparison to the stock piece. If you want to shift quickly.
With Supercharged power which I like you need the quick shift.
The reason you screw around because the loose stock unit
with the long throw sucks.
I tried the hurst in my c5 and hated it, not sure what its like in the c7.. I ended up taking my stocker and shortening it and that was perfect. like butter, just shorter. Just chopped an inch or so off and welded it back together. tip: Keep a cool wet rag over the bushing to keep it from melting.
