My CPA is in the market for a C-7 and he knew I was a
Vette' guy. He said the salesman at a local dealership told him the tires were only good for 10,000 miles and cost about $10,000 a set.
Now I know a bit about the older cars, but I told him I'd ask around a bit to find out the real story. I know the cars come with Michelins ZPs and they are a bit pricey, but that seems really high to me. I just put a new set on one of my C-5s for around $1500.00 bottom line. I can't imagine the 19-20s would be that much higher. And only 10,000 miles on a set?
Also, does anyone make compatible replacement tires other than the Michelins?
Hes full of you know what. Currently for a full set of OEM tires from Tire Rack, it is $1,520.00. As far as the tread life it all depends on how rough you are on it, a friend of mine has 11,000 miles already and his tires still have tread left. (Z51)

And add around $75 for shipping and another $125 for mount and balance to that $1520 for the actual price to drive them home.
If you're paying $125 to have 4 tires mounted and balanced, I have some swamp land I'd love to sell you...
Thats the going rate for dismounting/mounting and road force balance around here, about 1/2 that for regular spin balancing. Lot of tire stores wont even fool with Corvette run flats.
Plus tax if you buy local as well, not everyone wants to order 4 tires and then haul then to a tire store.

Yikes!
Back in October of last year, I paid less than $100 for all 4 on my GS-bodied C6 for Michelin PS..

Maybe we're cheaper out west in that regard.
Depends, I usually mount and balance my own at a friend's shop but he doesnt have a road force balancer so its hit and miss on the balancing. So sometimes I have to take them somewhere else to be road force balanced.
Its 90.00 just for road force balancing at discount tire if I remember, few other places around town are cheaper for the road force but I wont let them touch nice wheels.
Does anyone have any experience with what kind of wear they get on the Michelins? I know 30,000 is a slam dunk on my C-5s. I auto cross about once a year.

I got a good 4 wheel alignment to GM specs and hope to get at least 30,000 out of the 18/19 Michelins on my daily driver C7. The 19/20" Z51 versions have a softer dual compound tread but I'd still expect far more than 10,000 miles if not tracked and if alignment is ok.

The trick (if you're not aware) is to align the camber as close towards the neutral end of spec as possible

I had a set of Michelin tires done on our Acura MDX last year, and every local tire shop I called was $30-35 per tire to mount and balance.
Maybe things are much cheaper on the left coast?
Just go to a local Discount Tire store. They will match Tirerack, a proper mount and balance is $16 / corner, with or without force balance.
Mileage on base tires are warrantied to 30,000 miles. On the Z51 the rears are cut in half to 15,000 miles. Use these as baselines but factor in the mileage you usually get from other tires as the roads you drive and your driving style, that will play the most important role in how many miles you'll get.
Expect less expensive options to be available by the time you need new tires. If you aren't married to run flats you could easily find replacements for under $1000 installed.
Tell your CPA to stop crunching numbers and just buy one

Tire Rack will ship straight to the service center you want to use.

Yes, they can be rotated side to side without dismount/remount.
