Default Ron Fellows--Spring Mountain

ladies and gentlemen, just finished 5 days ( son in level one, myself in level two ) at spring mountain. extensive description on systems and features of the c 7 ( all cars there are zo51 ). drove the new track as well as original. ron fellows was there and spoke almost each day to both classes, answering any and all questions. i cannot say enough about the quality of this school and the instructors. the car itself…..to paraphrase one of the students in the class ( former f-16 pilot )…" if you cannot fly a high performance aircraft, this is the next best thing. as a former air force pilot myself, i could not agree more. simply incredible !! if you love driving and the corvette, this experience needs to be at the top[ of your bucket list. rex little

I just told my wife about this school, looking forward to going. Is it really 45 mins from Vegas? Anybody took there spouses yet? Need positive feedback to close the deal with the wife.

I would advise you to stay in Pahrump rather than Vegas. You are not going to want a 45-minute drive at the end of a hard day of practice. You will be beat. Spend a few days in Vegas before the class, if you're into Vegas.

It is a great experience. The Forum sponsored a special one-day course a few years back, and my wife and I both had a blast. (It was still Bragg-Smith at the time, and pretty primitive.) She liked the Z06 so much she got one of her own.

What handling mode did you mostly use? Did you turn any laps with it turned off?

Great facility, great staff. I'm looking forward to my next trip out there (last there in July) to try the new course and the new C7's. I can't think of a better way to get away from the daily grind, money well spent.

Most of them - the point of some of the course is to teach you how to get the car "on the edge" so you can follow the proper line at speed. You start out learning drifting in what they call the "vomit comet." It's a car with a special suspension rig that simulates driving on ice. Before you go out on the course, you'll also get instruction in heel-and-toe downshift techniques, and other fundamentals.

i would highly encourage the spouses to go. they will be able to ride with the instructors as much as they like….i rode along when my son was doing level one, a lot of help for me just seeing and feeling the course with speed. they no longer use the " vomit comet " they turn off all the " magic " and use the paddock with water to teach control and to let you experience a few " panoramic views " of the paddock….car will leave you in a new york minute if your hands are not fast enough ! we used track mode with sub mode sport one…yes there are modes within modes ! did not visit " the castle "….but it is there. believe it or not, there is a sushi house…..yes, and it is good !! the new track is very fast and smooth with excellent grip ! i think that answers most questions. will go back with my son . rex

Regarding the wife.... I'd say it all depends how much she is into cars. If she is not interested do you both a favor and leave her at home. There's not much in Pharump to do besides a smokely local casino. And try to stay at a condo at the track. Again the Nuggett or the Best Western leave a lot to be desired. One other option is a B&B.... Spring Mountain can give you that contact.

Don't speed on the road to Vegas. They are everywhere and we hear it's $650!!!

I do agree great experience. I'll be back.

The condos are great, get a large one with balcony, my wife watched me doing laps from the balcony just inside turn 2 of the older course. Good dining choice, Symphony Restaurant at the Pahrump Winery, about 3 miles from the track.
