Default Rev Match Paddles Relocation

This thread is a question for those of us who believe the Rev Match paddles should relocate, change design to form of a switch, or be eliminated to a menu option. Hopefully with your contribution and thinking as a group, we can have ideas for aftermarket forum vendor.

If you were to re-design the Rev Match paddles, what would you do?

I like the idea of a quick and easy on/off switch so I wouldn't want it relegated to a menu option. I actually don't mind the paddles. Having said that, even though my car is a MT, I keep wanting to "click" the paddle to shift for some stupid reason I'd have preferred a button or more proper switch on the steering wheel somewhere around the radio controls, etc.

I don't mind the location but would like a default on option in the menu.

This is what I think:
- Remove the Rev Match paddles and block the holes.
- Replace the cruise control master on/off button with Rev Match button.
- Replace cruise control cancel button with master on/off button.

Cancel button really not needed. A light tap on clutch or brake pedal will function like pushing the cancel button. I remember C6 cruise control system did not have a cancel button and I did not miss anything.

Correct. Many members like the default on, or "remember the last state" option.
I suggest a "latch" on/off switch for Rev Match. The function will be always on (or off) regardless of engine restarts.

Bim, I love the idea of the buttons on the wheel ( and the Madden-esque diagram) That would be the option for me if available. Unfortunately, I think fot GM it would mean making 2 wheels (one auto one manual) and they won't do it due to cost.

The "last state on start-up" option is another good idea. Or even add it to the memory 1&2 (if they can clean those up)

I like them the way that they are. But, I would like to be able to change the default to "on."

Dumbest thing on the C7 cockpit -- having to look around the steering wheel to find and push the rather odd looking "start" button. It's like they were trying to hide it from view.

Second dumbest thing is the paddle shifters at all on the manual cars. There had to be a better solution.

Third dumbest thing: the totally out of character looking up and down button for the Nav screen and it's placement.

Fourth dumbest thing: the ginormous radio + and radio - buttons on the steering wheel. Why make them so large and why put them right next to one another so every time you use them you have to look down on the wheel to find them?

Fifth dumbest thing is the location of the seat memory switches. You have to reach completely around your body to push them because unless your left arm is 12 inches long, it's impossible to push it from a sitting position.

It's a good car but some parts of the interior make me wonder if anyone really thought this out.

Rev match paddles were a result of GM not wanting to build two different steering wheels: one for Auto, and for manual transmissions. The net result is more efficiency that combines to make this fantastic machine so affordable for everything that it offers. To be honest I really don't mind it where it is, and I'm a tinker guy. It's out if the way, yet very accessible. I've got better things to do with my money and time than fix something that isn't broken.

I agree with the pictures being posted. I would have never thought there would be two designated buttons for turning the cruise on and off.

Another thing I do not understand is why they have 3 speedometers (if you have the HUD).

There's one mechanical one on the left, the center digital, and then the HUD digital. It seems to me the one on the left is useless. I never look at it.

Wow.. Everything you mentioned is a non issue for me. I have no issues hitting the start button and don't even need to look for it. My hands seem to hone in on it every time. I never have to look for my radio +/- buttons either. I know exactly where they are just like the radio tune +/- buttons. Same goes for the Rev Match which I never bother using because I've been doing that with my feet for countless years. The memory buttons are also a non issue for me and my arms are not 12" long. To each their own though. There are a lot of functions and controls in this car and what works for one may not work for the other. The engineers had a huge task of creating locations for all these functions while also keeping them aesthetically pleasing to the eye while also being ergonomic (for most).. As I said, I personally never gave a second thought to any of your above gripes. I've adapted and been quite comfortable with everything and most certainly, I happily accept what I have.

Spending 2 days a few weeks back at Spring Mountain....... and wanting to experiene both heel toe and the advantage of rev matching........ I like them where they are at. Not in the way convienant to turn on and off to practice your driving skills.

If you are seriously racing....... just set them as you would your seat and steering position before you hit the track and forget it.
