With the Auto you can still shift with your fingers using the paddle shifters and it just as much fun and your left leg will appreciate not having to push in the clutch pedal, though it will take a few weeks in the new Auto Tranny car before your left legs realizes it doesn't have to go through the motions of pushing in a clutch! LOL!
If you are getting old I'd say go to the Auto now because pretty soon your may have to got to one because of your knee joints or wrist joint from shifting anyway. That happened to me at age 62 and so I finally had to get an auto. But I love it now.
Got to work that shoulder or it will never be right. There will be pain, go to rehab. I guess an automatic might be in order. Save on options and trade when your shoulder is better or pain be dammed, I'm going to shift into another gear. Feel for you.
100% on work the shoulder, ask me how i know, 100% worth it too.
Absolutely!
There is no need to pump your left leg and shove that right arm any more with the A8 coming. Move up to the 21st century in your high performance vette.
And yes, the A8 is both a manual and auto all in one.
I'm in your same situation. I had surgery in early February and only now am getting to where I don't need to assist the first to second shift. Since I'm not getting any younger I'm going to get an automatic. I don't want to get one until the 2015 model year because I want the new automatic. The problem is that if you've never had an automatic high performance car it's hard to know whether you'll like it until you have it. I plan to take a test drive at some point in an automatic but I have my doubts whether a limited time behind the wheel will tell me what I need to know. I have learned to somewhat enjoy the wait and be okay with the uncertainty of whether I'll like an auto or not. Good luck with your decision.

If I order a manual now there is the risk of not being able to drive it. If I order an automatic now I run the risk of wishing I had a manual, especially if I'm able to shift the manual. If I wait until the shoulder issue has become clear I'll be getting the C7 towards the end of the driving season here and I might as well get a 2015 for the 2015 driving season. I know the sensible thing to do would be to wait for 2015 but dammit, I want a C7 this year! Any thoughts on this?
Problems, problems. You have a C6. "Obsolete" as it is, its still a nice Car. Drive it until your medical/physical situation becomes more clear. If you have to, order a 2015. It will be a better Car, inside and out. If you have to go auto, the A8 will be there for you. Better transmission.
