Yes, buy another C7
Seriously I've never had OnStar any extra free months or discounts on my other GM cars. I just cancelled as it wasn't worth it to me (only thing I like is tracking car if stolen). Will just depend how much $$ they want now.

If you ask them for a discount they will offer you a few dollars off a month, maybe $5?
If you tell them you sold the car and a later on call back with and tell them you just bought the car under different name they will give you 3 months free

If you keep it make sure you take advantage of any discount your insurance company offers for having the theft tracking feature, it helps offset some of the cost of OnStar.
However I do NOT go with the additional discount offered if you allow OnStar to share driving data with your insurance company. I remember years ago when I used OnStar to retrieve a check engine code while I was driving and they also provided me with my location and speed (which was significantly over the speed limit for my location). That was a little too much info

My Onstar was time to renew on my 427 Vert. I called to ask for a discount, saying I didn't think it was worth the money. I also have Onstar on a new Stingray and a 2014 Silverado (maybe that helped?). The advisor said she could knock off $100/year from the plan, so I asked for the Directions and Connections plan with paper billing.
Of course, I haven't seen a bill and my Onstar may be off now.
It was worth a call.

There are three things I like about Onstar in increasing order of desirability
- Can run diagnostic checks anytime along with regular reports from them by email
- Theft tracking
- They’ll immediately alert emergency services in the event of an airbag deployment. That quick response might be critical if you’re unfortunate enough to be in a serious accident.
One thing I haven’t been pleased with (two 2009s with continual Onstar service) is that I buy hands free calling minutes. Can’t carry over the minutes unless you buy some additional quantity and to do that that usually requires speaking to a supervisor. Don

I have owned 6 GM's in the last few years, all of them with OnStar.
1. YES, they discount. When you call about renewal, tell them it's too expensive and they will offer you a reduced rate...at least they did for me on several occasions.
2. If you really want it, pay for it annually, it's cheaper than month to month.
OK...now, that being said. OnStar is NOT worth it (IMHO). I never used it, especially if my vehicles had NAV. Cell phone tech is so good now that you can basically replicate all the functions on the phone you already own. Pair your Bluetooth to the car and you are good to go.
Now, before the fan-boys start to rip me on the diagnostics and the emails that your car sends you once a month...I get it. That is cool, but it is NOT enough to justify the insane prices...and it really is not anything useful. Your car will tell you when its time to change the oil and that your tires are low on air.
One thing you can be thankful for...It's not Mercedes M-Brace! That provides NOTHING other than emergency response and the ability to unlock your doors for about twice as much!

Have Onstar in my GMC 2500 for the hands free calling. Wife had it in her Caddy a few years back and it was very useful when she lost all functions except the engine while driving in rainstorm on the freeway. They were able to tell her nothing was wrong with the car and to take it to dealer as soon as she could. Dealer replaced a computer. As long as I can Bluetooth my phone and have a Nav I don't see the need for Onstar.

My trial OnStar expires in May/2014. I called them and they gave me a 6-month promotional subscription for $20.25/month - which includes "Directions and Connections". They said to call back after 6 months and see if they can offer me another promotion. I just completed a 3,100 mile C7 "road trip" and the "Directions and Connections" came in really handy.

I am glad you mentioned this because it is a good point. When I arranged for my insurance the agent asked about OnStar, telling me that it would reduce my premium. The only thing I didn't think to ask at the time was how much discount. When it comes time to decide on carrying on with OnStar I will have to find out just how much the cost might actually be offset by premium reduction.

Dunno, I'm ready to cancel it now during my trial.
Yesterday I get in the car and I'm listening to someone on the radio and all of a sudden OnStar interrupts with an advertisement about adding phone minutes. WTF!
I didn't buy my car to be interupted to hear commercials for paid services. Hit the blue button and unloaded on the rep a bit, got opted out supposedly.

Yes that is CREEPY. I had two of them in a row. I do not see why Onstar thinks this is a good idea.

You're correct. I forgot the figures but I'll be 1) reducing the rate by dropping the route guidance (I have a Nav model), and 2) by buying the multi-year for three years at a time for the basic service. Over three years it will almost pay for itself in insurance discounts. It's the lease expensive way.

I will not continue with Onstar when trial is over. You can start it up again any time you want. If your car is stolen, which is very unlikely, call Onstar and have them start your service. Then call and report it stolen. It does work this way.

Really, are you ready to cancel your collision insurance since you may not have used it either?
Haven't heard of anybody getting a free ride from OnStar but they will give you a discount if you ask. A lot of people get the employee price which is about $50 less per year for the basic Safe and Sound plan which gives you everything you need.
I have it on my 08 and get an insurance discount because of it. And, NO!! the insurance company has never asked any questions when the car has been running at 150+ mph on the track 40 days per year. The conspiracy and aluminum foil hat guys don't need to worry.

I think it's a waste of money. I have it for free for 3 years on my Volt and used their Nav once. I could have brought my Garmin along instead. Only thing they could sell me is the Nav part for say $10 a month or less since I plug in my detector in 12 volt plug.

My Safe and Sound Plan expires May 2014. I just tried to reduce their fee from $169.00 per year to $149.00 per year.........NO DICE!! Their bottom price is $159.00 per year. So I simply CANCELLED and they are preparing a Cancellation Letter. End of Story!
