They probably looking at the feed back for a mid engine platform. Sampling the waters so to speak. Remember the Edsel, Ford Motor Company researched customer preference for a car with performance and the latest options available. Evidentially the company never ask customers if they would purchase such a car. The name Edsel probably didn't help with marketing either. The 1958 Edsel is, is, is ugly and a redesign to more accepted standards was implemented the very next year. By 1962 the model was history. Some people evidently like them, there is a National Edsel Car Club.

GM hasn't owned this car in almost 40 years. It first went to the Briggs Cunningham collection, and has since had several different owners. It's present owner appears to wish to be anonymous.
Maybe just anonymous to me since I have no idea who owns it.
CERV II was a project to explore a 4 wheel drive sports racing car.
