Default Looking for under the dash power

There has to be somewhere under the dash, fairly easy to access, a power source. I want hard wire a Valentine Radar Detector, and didn't want to disassemble the console to get power there or use the computer access for the SAAVY.

Access to the center console is ultra easy. It literally can be done in under 2 minutes

I Agree with the others. Pulling the console up is simple. A 10 minute job or less for the inexperienced who read up on what to do. I could actually do it in 5 minutes or less and there is no reason to even remove it completely. You just need to lift it up over the gear shift **** to access the wires with the shifter in place.

OK, I've looked at that damn film multiple times. My take on it is this:

1) Remove Console Door
2) Remove driver-side trim piece.
3) Remove small triangle piece of trim driver side (this might not be needed)
4) Place gear shift in 4th or D and pry up console to access wires
5) Make connection to cigarette lighter lead.
Reverse 4 - 1 and done.

Is that a fair assessment or did I miss something?

Have my car since early October. Many of us have used fuse #37 that is for the console plug. Lots of posts on the issue. I had tried unsuccessfully to wire into the vanity mirror light since I was concerned about going “all the way to the back fuse panel,” however it is very easy. It is located at the rear of the panel so you don’t have to even uncover the whole fuse panel to attach an Add-A-Circuit. It is also very easy to tuck wires under the molding along the floor and up and under the rear carpet without any tools. If you route the wires on the passenger side the only difficulty is lifting the carpet to get at the battery, probably need to learn to do that anyway, in case it’s ever needed! Have step by step details on my web site with pics: netwelding.com/reports_vette_info.htm Note I also routed the wires to the top of the windshield and they are hidden. Only one small piece of molding in the door jamb was removed to hide the wires. You certainly can get the 12 volts however you wish, just my suggestion!

I wonder if it is any different if I choose to run the wires down the driver's side instead of the passenger side...

You're correct in that you don't need to do #3 and right on about the rest.

Gracias Amigo! I'm good to go on this task when I get my car.

Now, if blendmount will just get their $hit together and come up with a mount for the C7, the world will be my oyster!

I'm currently working on one with a machinist buddy of mine. It will mount under one of the visor clip mounts

Doesn't work on the C7 as there's no connector on the back of it

Once the wires are accessed, what's the best way to tap into them? Is there a plug of some kind that would fit between the power plug and the preexisting wire? I am looking for the safest, surest, most idiot proof approach...

Spoken like a true C7 non-owner. I had invisicords on my C5 and both C6s, but it won't work on a C7 mirror.

I've never been a fan of wire taps (like those car stereo shops use) so I stripped back the wire before it enters the connector body (to the cig lighter socket), solder and tape it. I also stagger the plus and minus lines so there is no possible way for a short to occur should the tape ever come off - that is to say I strip the + line back 1/2" from the connector body and the - line 1" back. Like I said, no way to short together that way.

I also placed a 1 amp inline fuse with the + lead leading to the radar detector, close to the tap point. Not so much to protect the detector but rather the wiring to it.

No connector and no 12v. Ain't gonna work on the mirror.

Default Mirror mount

Great Lakes Trophy has a Valentine and Escort mount. Better than Blendmount in my opinion.
