Default Car died, your input please

Car died on the road yesterday, sounds like this guy had the same problem

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-g...-car-died.html

I have had the exact same problem and heard at least two others have had this problem. It was a pretty big safety issue in my case,

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/1586...-post1342.html

from my orginal post

", with about 700 mile on the OD, I was driving it today when it developed a ticking/rattle noise in the engine bay. I pulled over and listened some more to it. No engine light, no indications anything was wrong other then the ticking that developed rapidly and was more pronounced at 2-3K RPM. Decided to had home. 1/2 mile later car dies on me. I was quickly able to pull into a drive way.
Dash is blank, doors don't work, engine will not start or turn over. All that works is the windows. info center, dash, EVERYTHING is Blank, not on. Had to have it towed. I could not even get the car out of park and into neutral, electrically the car is dead, except the windows.

I looked through this entire thread and have not seen anybody with this problem, has anybody heard of this? It is a HUGE disappointment and I am really worried.

I factory ordered the car vin 17056, dealership I had it towed to opens Monday at 7am est, hope they can diagnose quickly, until then any ideas guys?

I would really like to encourage other owners that maybe have had this problem to speak up to see what the problem was and how GM handled it.
"

Let us know what your dealer says when they look at your car. Seems kinda strange for a late VIN car.

I can't help but wonder if you have a battery cable that is loose. While it might not explain the rattling noise, if the voltage drops from a loose connection, the fuel pump would have issues that could cause a similar noise. The battery connections could certainly explain the electronics not working and the car dying. That would be the first thing I would check.

That is the first thing I looked at, I checked the connections to the battery in the truck, seemed tight (at least finger and jiggle tight) after that I didn't want to do anything else

I doubt the moderators will reopen a thread, due to side topics. If you still have questions, post a new thread/topic.

Yep, and it would be beneficial if the OP would post the content of his post in the ** C7 Reported issues and resolutions thread ** thread in his original post here.

And let's hope this thread does not get derailed like the other one did.

That is weird indeed. Op did the rear hatch open normally? Thinking out loud if the windows are up and down then at least the car thinks its in ACC at a minimum? The ticking was up and down with revs in pace or just louder...

Doesn't sound like a simple ground but I hope it is...

NOTHING in the car worked except the windows, had to use the key for the trunk, and the manual releases for the doors. the ticking was most pronounced at 2-3K and inline with RPM. I have video of it, but the video is 50MB on my phone. uploading to youtube now, will ahve link in a bit...

You can host it on YouTube and then embed it into a post using the YouTube tag.

ok, here is the video. I heard the ticking, pulled over to see if I could see what was going on, could not, so decided to video it in case it went away. Yo can see there is no CEL or other messages, and all gauges are in spec, but I decided to head home, and the car died 1/2 up the road from where this was taken.

there is no way it's a ground issue or battery for that matter if all electrical is lost EXCEPT the windows, despite what some people think the windows don't run on a separate battery back up.

Brian
Maybe a bad alternator? The noise could be the bearing going bad.

I'm going to say based on the sound that what happened to your car quitting isn't related to that sound. That sound reminds me of a pulley chirp and I think I've read there are a few that have a leak of fluid causing the chirp. If it is a pulley then that is good in as much as it probably isn't catastrophic engine failure.

The shutdown I am guessing that a computer died somehow and the clicking you heard is just coincidence...

Good luck at the dealer. They will get you going.

OP, Do you think the noise was internal or external of the engine?

Could be many things then if it is external, but being the car died, I feel better it's not something major if external. It's possible the noise and car dying are unrelated.

It's crummy it had to happen and I feel bad for you, but you're under warranty, so let them get it fixed for you.
