Mine does exactly the same thing, and only after sitting. It cranks for quite a while than catches. Seems to run fine, and only has 90 miles so I was waiting to see if it improved over the break in before bringing it to the dealer....
Direct injection operates under different parimeters than constant injection. A restart later should be all but instantaneous. I'm thinking the longer crank time is normal.
This is completely normal with direct injection. The colder it is the longer it takes to build up fuel pressure to start. Up here in MN i first noticed it in my 2014 silverado in the fall and it would take like 5 secs to turn over, it also had me worried at first.
I would actually not mind if all my cars cranked for a few seconds before starting – give the oil system a chance to prime! The vast majority of engine wear apparently happens right on start-up before oil pressure is up.
Hmmmm – Maybe I’ll add a delay relay into the ignition system
I had mine in for service today and mentioned this problem to my service writer. He gave me a copy of #PIP5179: Extended Crank Cold with (DI). (Doc ID:3709701) which basically states that crank times will increase as the temperature falls. Thus, it seems to be normal with DI.
