Default ClearBra Quote

Dear Fellow Members,
I've been thinking about getting my new Vette clear coated, and was given this quote by a NJ dealer. It seems high to me and somewhat overkill. Any thoughts or recommendations. See quote below.

Our full nose for that car, which includes your front bumper, full hood, full fenders, mirrors, and headlamps, runs $1595 cash (add 7% sales tax for credit cards). To add the wheel arches is an additional $45 for all four arches. If you want to include coverage on the rear lower bumper behind the rear wheel, that is an additional $60. Another susceptible area where we have provided coverage to at least two of our other stingray clients is the rear diffuser under the bumper, which is a custom install and adds $75 to the quote. If you decide to go ahead with all of this coverage, I will package it for $1700 cash.

Thanks,
John

That's about right for what I've been quoted locally for XPEL from the mass-market installers that will probably do a 90-100% quality job.

All of the premier shops that are known for doing exotic cars and will not release a car to a customer with any stretch marks or wrinkles are quoting me $2800-$3500 to do:

Bumper
Full Hood
Full Fenders
Rockers (under doors between front and rear wheel wells)
Roof panel.

Oh, and those quotes are all "bulk" work, meaning that they don't use the pre-cut patterns. These are all custom cut for the car and wrapped around panels to hide any film edges.

So, you paid 1,300 for custom cut. I see that you're in CA. I will have to check to see if Expel is in NJ. Thanks.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Still deciding this week while my car is at the detailer getting fully worked over.

The more I think about it, the more I am wondering if it's worth it. I've never done any paint protection film before. The only part of this car I am really worried about is the exposed carbon roof, you can't do any reasonable cost repairs to that panel.

I know exactly what you mean. I have never put this stuff on any of my cars before and I think 1700 is too pricey. Only would want it on the front bumper, half way up the hood and the side mirrors. I have never had much problem with chips on the roof. Much to think about.

I guess that I must have gotten the "deal of the century"! I had mine done yesterday along with tint by a 'master'...not a crease or wrinkle and he normally has to clay bar front ends before application. My paint from BG was impeccable and as smooth as the proverbial "babies a$$". I did Clearshield (5 year warranty) which he pre-cut and included the hood and fenders to the rear of the radiator exhaust, full bumper and mirrors. The price was $600....$700 if I wanted Xpel Ultimate (10 year). I've had many cars clearbra'd over the years and pricing quoted in this thread above is highly inflated!

I wish I was in AZ as that price is fair. Good for you!

It's all relative...

I had my coupe pretty much 80% coverage (everything but the upper doors, hatch and butt) with Xpel Ultimate buy a local high-end shop and windows tinted for around $2,500...

Thanks for the info. Just spoke with the original quote guy who now is giving me a price of $850 for the full hood, front bumper, partial front fenders, side mirrors and head lamps for the Xpel Ultimate.

You NEED to get the ENTIRE rockers, rear quarters (in front of the rear wheels) and lower part of the doors done too. They WILL take hits

The Xpel installer in Salt Lake City quoted the same price as the kits are listed on Xpel's website. $1,150 for Full Hood, Fender and Mirror Kit, $430 for Bumper Kit, $450 for Rocker Panel Kit. Grand Total $2,030 installed plus tax.

Word of advice, the installer advised against applying any film over the headlights because the Corvettes have had issues with crazing and cracking of the lenses due to the heat generated by the lamps. One of only a few types of cars with that problem. He would do it, but would not warranty any problems that arise with the lenses. The C7's Owners Manual advises against using caps or covers while lamps are illuminated. Don't know if that also means the clear film. You might want to check with your dealer to see if the film would void the warranty for the lens. I'm undecided.

Depends on your budget. I'm just saying if you're doing a clear bra to protect the paint, don't neglect those areas that need protection....

Don't go halfway up the hood. The line will bug you. Cover the whole thing.

you know as much as I tried to talk myself into installing Xpel, I just can't pull the trigger. I have looked at multiple cars done by multiple installers and just don't care for the defects that seem to show up in everyone's cars. Bubbles, dirt under the film, peeling, lines, etc. I have ordered my tried and true protection, a Speed Lingerie cover. It is a bit of a challenge to get stretched out initially but after sitting in the sun it isn't too bad to install. I have had 5 of them on different cars and they have saved my butt multiple times. I never have had any issues with paint damage from the cover.

I know there are a lot of folks that just don't care for a physical cover but I am not one of them. I live out in the country so anytime I do a rally, etc. I am talking about quite a few more miles than living in town and a lot more exposure.

just my humble opinion....

Mike
