I don't think it can be generally attributed to it being a DI engine or cold weather. My VW DI engine doesn't do it even when it has sat outside all night in sub 20F temperature. I have driven a handful of other DI cars and none of them have this prolonged ~1.5 sec startup. Yet my C7 does it when starting in my 62F garage.
It doesn't bother me so long as it's normal and not due to bad battery or starter that could leave me stranded later on.
I have two other cars with DI, one does take a bit longer than normal to start but the other one starts immediately. My C6 would also start up right away but my C7 after being parked for a few days took a lot of turns to fire up.
