Default Oil temp readings

When I start my car completely cold (around 50 degrees ambient), the oil temp says it is 104 degrees. Takes a while to start climbing but does eventually get to a temp a few degrees cooler than the engine. Is this normal? I tried searching but didn't get any results. My car is a dry sump Z51 and I would have thought the oil would be cooler than what I'm seeing even when fully warmed up although I don't know where the reading is being sensed.

Until you stress the engine (get some load on it, especially in warmer ambient temps), oil temp always lags coolant temp.

That makes sense, but my issue is the oil temp reading 104 degrees when the engine is first started and cold (50 degrees).

Here is a pic of the engine warming up.

Might just be the minimum it's calibrated to. After all, you'll never see oil temp anywhere near that low under any operating condition of the engine.

Much ado about nothing, IMHO.....

104 is as low as that reading goes, the 'virtual' oil temp gauge starts at 100 as well.

It's not a big deal to me, but I was just wondering if it was normal as I would think others would notice when a temperature sensor is showing 60 degrees off what the real temp is and think there may be something wrong with the sensor. All I'm looking for are others who can confirm their car does the same thing and that this is the way it is supposed to be.

It is kind of odd it bottoms out at 104 and not 100 or some other even number, but like a lot of other little things thats just how it is.

If you scroll through the different center displays (up/down) when in 'perf' the trans temp is one of the gauges. You can also set it up as a pocket gauge in the sport dash I think, I think the default is oil temp on the RH side.

I think it's under performance and just scroll till you get to it.

You might have to have it in the Weather, Eco or Tour mode, not certain.

If you are talking about the pic you posted, its on the 'tour' dash under perf, or maybe info. Just have to scroll around.

Put the dash in touring theme, then press the left arrow on the steering wheel, scroll to the 2nd from the top (PERF), press the right arrow. Then press the up or down arrow on the steering wheel until you get the display with the readout and the Corvette in the middle.
