Default Corvette Competition

So, right now, the new Corvette Stingray is dominating. But that doesn't mean there are no competitors. Here is a list of things I consider threats.
2014 Dodge Viper GTS (sort of)
2014 Viper ACR
2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition (Because anything worse can't keep up!)
2014 McLaren 650s
2014 Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Up and coming Paganis

If you feel some of these shouldn't be here or you have comments about performance comparisons, please post below. But please do not post about price, because the corvette whoops all.

(Don't even mention the F-type seriously )

Well, the Vipers are on hold until at least June.

I dont see enough new with the GT-R to generate excitement for me and the looks are too Nissany for me.

Porsche always makes well engineered cars but unless you are a true Porsche enthusiast or someone who needs the badge on the car to feel special, its just another slightly changed, almost Beetle design Ive seen for the last 30 years.

Pagani and Maclaren is a different class I think. Not saying people dont own both but I think the Vette is more of an everyday car people would drive around town. The others are more special event cars.

I do think the Jag F-Type is something to consider. Its right in the price performance range and looks pretty hot. I cross shopped it but went with the vette.

The Alfa 4c might be something on the horizon too. It seems a little quicker than the vette and has the design to draw attention. Reliability though... hard to get get past their past

Aren't all those cars at least $30K more that the Vette? They should be faster. Just think what you'd have if you put the same money into the C7. Besides there will always be a faster car out there if you have the money.

I think the real competitors are higher end mustangs, porsche cayman and 911, and any 45-65k old resto mod on the auction block.

Old guys generally don't like to travel far for their cars...that makes mustangs and Corvettes accessible. Those compete for that reason imo. With Porsche...I tend to think the C7 created a lot of new found buyers with it's appearance and interior...so I think that has been fairly successful. In the end though, the C7 is mostly a toy to the older genre...as are old resto mods and muscle cars...so I think a lot of guys find themselves thinking "66 Corvette or new C7?"..."70 Chevelle or new C7"...etc.

What kind of competition are we talking about? Sales? If so, I don't think too many of those manufacturers are going to be losing sleep over the C7. Maybe Porsche will lose a few of the lower end (Cayman and Boxster) customers.

99.9% of buyers don't use the "speed" built into a Boxster.

Just think of what you'd have if you put the same money into an old Fox bodied Mustang. $3,000 + $67,000 in mods.

Given that street performance is very equivalent in all the popular performance cars today the differentiation is in quality of materials, paintwork, assembly, design, steering feel, trans feel, etc.

A C6 Corvette's performance is still very respectable when compared to 2014 performance cars and only comes up short by those looking for performance advantages above the 6/10 that most people use every day. Quality of materials in the C7 seems to be the major improvement, along with a fresh design.

What are the prices of the cars you listed???? That is a very real and important factor. Many corvette buyers consider the car a good value for the 65K to 75K price range. I think some of the cars you mentioned would be way above that price point, and hence not be a competitor atleast from the price of it.

I think the prices do matter realistically but I felt the OPs intention was more of a "if prices were no object" sort of question.

We hear "best for the money" but if money weren't an issue, can the car hold it's appeal against the rest.

These cars are not in the same class as the C7. I do not see what the competition would be.

People are going to cross shop the C7 stingray with the boxter/cayman, M3/4, 911/911S. The C7 Z06 will be shopped with the 911 Turbo/Turbo S, GT3, viper. The exotics are in a different category ( people with big bucks, big egos, or both. Personally I think most of those cars are just a bunch of waaay over priced nonsense, even if you have a very thick wallet. I would take a vette over anything else period. But that's just me.)

Default Might be better in the z06 Forum

None of the cars listed are direct competitors to a Corvette,

A new member might find more luck trolling there as

this list is Z06 Territory

Corvette Targets Std 911 911S F Type Bmw M3/4 Cayman GTS Boxster GTS, Shelby and a few others nothing exotic

So, this comment and another one both mentioned the mustang. However, the GT500 (top tier mustang) is no where near the level of performance of the Camaro let alone the Vette. Sure its fast in a straight line, but 5k more than ZL1? (which is not faster than stingray)

Now for the F-type, it is at least 20k more than stingray but is not as track capable (which is the basis for competition I was using, but keeping near indycar level cars like P1 away)

How are the 911 and Carrera "Out of the Vettes reach"? If anything, the stingray is out of theirs. The stingray is faster than the c6 z06 on laguna seca. Now, if you look at the top 100 nurburgring lap time list you will notice the Z06 is quite high, higher than any Porsche besides the 918 that is around 10x the price of the Z06.

BMW; where did the old lady car company come in? nuff said

Note: more expensive does not mean better, just look at 400 some thousand dollar aventador LP racing. Slower than Corvette. Some "hypercars" like Koenigsegg Agera are 2 mil. Sure, it can reach around 260 mph. Stick a big-A camshaft and a race positive displacement supercharger into a Z06, ZR1, or stingray and you could reach 230-245 mph while price capping at around 100k.

Now onto the Veyron (kidding) Corvette for life!

Prices as requested
Viper GTS 90k
Viper ACR 140k
GT-R Track Edition 150k
McLaren 650s I'm not sure but I guess around 240k
911 GT3 RS I actually don't but I am guessing EXPENSIVE
Pagani Zonda is around 400k

Afterthought; there really aren't cars in the corvettes price range that get anywhere near it's level of performance, therefore, we have to include all production cars as performance competition

Both of these big V-8's luxury cars. Will be interesting to see how dealers handle the MSRP. One thing for certain dealers will offer test drives

2015 Mercedes Benz C63 Coupe 65K-75K new model.

Lexus RC-F Coupe 70K-77K new model.

the thing is, most of you, if not all are not thinking outside the box, some of those competitors could be direct competition to the C7 if you were looking at USED ones.

A guy I work with 2 months ago bought a used 2009 Carrera 4S with 15K miles for 2K less than what I paid for my 2LT Z51. The performance figures are about the same, too bad his doesn't get half the looks and comments that mine does.

I sold my 2009 C4S last September to get my C7 Z51, 3LT,7MT,mRc,npp. Have 2K miles since dec
Still fortunate to have a 2007 911 GT3 that I track with 20K miles bought used at 11K miles 2 yrs ago.
Both value around 70K
Both a boatload of fun
Both different
The newer one gets more attention for sure.
One has auto rev; one doesn't.
Spring mountain level 2 next month
Looking forward to this.

None of the above are in competition with the C7. The C7Z06 will be with the srt viper and nissan and likely those 3 will be priced close enough that cost will not be a deciding factor.

Mostly folk that do not own a viper, porsche etc are more concerned with which car has more hp or which one goes 1/10 faster here or there. Folk that I know that drive these cars typically don't think of other cars as threats either...just other road users. About 25% of viper owners are hobby racers (organized off-street events), but I am one of the rest and use my srt for commuting to work about 3 times a week, and weekend general use. If I see a corvette or porsche etc on the road, I will try and acknowledge it with a headlight flash because I am thankful that others appreciate sports cars (regardless of logo & year)......but I never see them as a threat or competition.

Exclusivity starts to play a bigger role in car selection for folk willing and able to spend 6 figures on a vehicle. That is where lower production cars have an appeal, but marketing, pricing better be dead on for that kind of car to survive.

Here are some other competitors for the Corvette:

Making rent
Feeding babies
Keeping you SigOther in luxury
Going to the movies
Having other hobbies
Traveling
Replacing your tattered clothes
Giving to charity
Fixing your lawn mower
Paying your CC bill

I could go on.
