Default Radar Detectors

Need some input on these things. What's good, what's bad, what features should be included. Which is better, Beltronic, Cobra, Escort?

Probably one zillion threads on this. Search button is your friend. Having said that, I never leave the garage without my Valentine1.

^ Agreed. Bunch of threads on this. Most of the ones you mentioned are very good, comes down to preference mostly.

I like the Solo. batteries last longer on the latest ones. It is the no wires that I like the best and I can take it from car to car.
Others are much better technically speaking so like other post--its a personal preference. cutnout aka charlie

Why would you want a radar detector unless you are going to be speeding.

If you want to have the greatest range of warning and you don't mind "false" alerts, then the Redline is the best.

Which just may save your a**!

Have the latest, rated best by a number of mags, Passport Max. Not cheap but I like the feature of being able to mark speed traps etc as a reminder. It also will pick up radar being used miles away. If you’re driving in the same areas another great feature is after seeing a signal several times it will not signal it again.
The other day heard a few blips near my home on a 60 mph 4 lane highway where there is a 45 mph short area they like to monitor. Sure enough, 2 miles down just after the 45 mph area was a patrol car in the center divider using radar to catch folks in the 45 mph max speed zone!

I had the Passport Max hardwired with the "Live" cord. Very intuitive and live postings directly to the detector is priceless.

After much research I bought the Escort 9500. We just got back from a 5000 mile road trip to California and the Escort saved us many times. Many people swear by the Valentine so do your research and get what you like.

I'll save you some time.

49% say the Valentine 1.
49% say the Escort branded models.
1% say "other"
1% say "Don't speed and you don't need one, dummy!"

Then the thread devolves into a mine is better than yours, nuh-uh... mine is pissing match. Then the thread is closed.

The end.

I have a Valentine 1 in my '13 C6. My wife has an Escort 8500 in the C7. If you can't afford the best, BEI is made by the Escort people and does a decent job for the budget buyer.

Oh, I forgot to mention mine.

I have 3 Valentine One units and have used them and upgraded them since 1996.

For a short time I tried the Passport 9500ix but I am too accustomed to the V1 and the arrows to change, so I sold it after about 3 months.

Escort and the most important feature that more are using is ESCORT
live. It is where everyone detectors are interconnected so when another gets a signal or manually marks a cops location.

This is SO cool that you should get that. Blows radar "just having radar or lazer" out or the water. I get warnings that are unreal.

Cop ahead before the radar or lazer goes off GET IT NOW!

Very well said.

Let me support the 49% for V1.

They have that right. That being said, I am a V1 user as well.

Beltronics for me. It has saved me a number of times. No speeding tickets.
