Default Z51 diff fluid check

Where is the plug located on the rear diff of a Z51? I want to check the fluid with all the horror stories I have read.

I was also curious about this as well. When I asked my salesman he said it would have to be brought around back put back up on the lift just to point out where it is. Then told me it's not something I could check at home in my garage and they would check it at regular service intervals. Gave me the old trust us and sent me on my way.

if you get the plastic mini car ramps that are 2.75 inches high, there
is enough room for an average corvette owner to check the fluid level.

if you are very skinny you can do it without the ramps.

Dumb question... so how do you actually check the fluid level?

Without reading the previous link, I'd say take out the fill plug. Stick in your pinkie. If it comes out wet, you're good. If it came out dry, add to where the fluid comes up to the bottom edge of the hole and replace plug.

That's my guess and I'm sticking with it!

That would have been my approach too... except I'd have to believe there is a more scientific way

Thanks for the info. I have my own lift and will get it in the air tomorrow to check the fluid level.

If this is low would it affect the feel of the shifter? When my car is cold or just started for the fist few miles I feels more difficult going into 1st and 2nd. About 4 miles it feels buttery. This or some other reason??
