Had the same issue so used a hole punch to make dots from electrical tape, see before and after pics below. Someone posted it will go away when the free OnStar ends, we'll see but in the mean time, this works:

Go to the engine compartment and remove fuse #26. (I think that is the correct one. It is in your manual).
The lights stayed on in my C6 after the free period and mine is disconnected so I won't be able to tell on my C7.
Probably can disconnect the harness from the mirror. I think my CTS went off when I cancelled it. my c6 I dont remmeber what it did. my c5z doenst have it

I thought mine stayed on as well! A forum poster insisted the lights went out. With my electrical tape circles, made with a hole puch, if they do, I'll just remove them. I recalled even if you were no longer paying they would try to get you to join from time to time.

That cracks me up!! When I first got the car, I had the same issue and wondered the same thing.. I guess it's not just me either. Then again, I am totally used to it now and don't give it a second thought but I must admit, it's very funny to see your post and know exactly what you are talking about! I'm glad I wasn't alone with this one!
I never, ever notice the lights in the mirror. The last time someone mentioned this I did take a look at them to see if I was just blocking them out or something, but really, no. They are not distracting and don't look like police lights.
I have always (on 'vettes and other GM cars) used a strip of 20% window tint . Can easily be removed later or tint % can be changed and you can still see the dimmer lights if you want OnSrar service. Slim

Now that I have the lights disconnected, the darker horizontal bar at the bottom of the mirror is still distracting.
