Default Down a quart after 600 miles?

Anyone else notice an unusual amount of oil being used? Used the normal "vary engine rpms and speed" but this seems like excessive consumption.
I know during break-in a car will aften use more oil than later on, but being down a quart after only 600 miles ????

That's why the manual states to check your oil with every fuel fill-up during engine break-in.

Yup, I know. And my question was has anyone else noticed this and have they experienced it??? Oil pressure at 1,600 rpms is about 38-42 pounds, oil temp is about the same as coolant, 210 degrees....

My pressure and temps are inline with yours. My C7 hasn't used any oil, but my Honda S2000 went through a quart every 1k miles with spirited driving (considered normal for the F20C engine). Top your oil off and keep watching it, but I'm betting your consumption will decrease/cease now that your engine in through the initial break-in period.

Recently checked mine at 2000 miles and it is the same level as it was when I got the car in October. Since is a dry sump I am careful to wait 5 minutes after stopping with a warm engine. Have also checked at 10 to 12 minutes after stopping to see if there was a difference, all readings just ~1/16 inch or so below max.

Was it at the top of the stick when new? If you never checked, it might not actually be down that amount.. Oil usage is normal though...

Thanks...
Checked it day we brought it home from dealer ( 2 miles away) was full, checked it at 200 miles and was down a bit. Checked it today at 600 and down to fill line - quart. Looks very clean, only slightly yellowish.
I'll do an oil & filter change this coming weekend and check it more often and see what happens. Not overally concerned but would like to see a bit less consumption. Keep you posted. If it repeats, will mention it to dealer's service dept.

To OP; you didn't say how you drive it. The LS series were all oil burners if you used a lot of rpm. Most of mine have been good on oil consumption, but I've seen a few that use oil routinely. Hopefully your consumption will decrease with mileage.

I've been pretty spirited with it, not exceeding the red line, but trying to vary the engine speed as much as possible. Not flooring it on take off or beating on it.

I was down a quart and a fourth at 350 miles. At 1100 now, and it hasn't burned any more.

at 475 miles and it hasn't used a single drop. I check it every time I drive it and then again a couple times between drives.....it has lost more oil from me wiping it off the dipstick.

btw I have a wet sump....if you have a Z51 I suggest you pull off your intake tube and see if there is oil in it. my intake and throttle body is also dry as a bone.

I know during break-in a car will aften use more oil than later on, but being down a quart after only 600 miles ????
Before you left the dealership did you ask if they had checked all the fluids ??? Did you get a message oil was low because I know if My C5 was low I always got a message !!! When i picked up my C7 ( no longer have the C5 ) I drove 3200 miles with no low oil messages from KC to Seattle and 2 days after I got home I went to my Car Club Chevy Dealer ( sponsor ) and had the oil ,filter changed ,air and cabin air filters checked
I also adhered exactly to the 500 and 1500 break in periods and probably most of the miles I drove was highway miles except about 200-300 miles !!! Wayne

U don't say if u have a dry sump. If u do, be very careful of overfilling. Follow the owners manual carefully!
