Just checked Royal Purples website...it says they exceed DEXOS 1 standards...do we need 1 or 2 I wonder....and I guess Royal Purple doesn't want to pay GM for the designation...

"Exceed" isn't sufficient if you have an internal engine issue and GM decides to play hardball on the warranty. If you are leaving the car stock to preserve your warranty then to me it isn't worth the risk to use an oil that doesn't carry the DEXOS label.

Royal Purple says their product "exceeds" all designations and ratings. Why do you want to use it? I used to use it and the only difference I noticed was that it costs more and there is way more dust on the bottles when you pull them off the shelf.
Get yourself some Mobil 1 5/30 Extended. Dexos label and better than regular Mobil 1.

For street use, engine failures are rare, even with conventional oil.
I just got my first oil change last week at 3k miles. The dealership said the C7 doesn't require synthetic but I insisted they use it anyway and pay the difference. My service tech agreed with me and they ended up not charging me for anything.
