I just ordered this for my car and it comes with a mirror tap. I don't know if it works on the vette.

I had my local car audio shop install the Escort Passport Max. Small unit that works incredibly with GPS and only $549. After all of my research the only unit better I could find was their 9500 which ends up running over $2000 with front and rear setup. They had a very clean I believe Blendmount that attaches to the windshield mirror mount and hard wired to the fuse panel. Looks great and has already saved me several times. Will try to post a picture.

The blendmount solution looks bad. It has the V1 on the left half of the mirror. I like symmetry and that isn't symmetrical!
I like the mount with the 4 screws.

Just received an e-mail from blendmount saying the mounts are available to order.
Not going to happen from me. I don't like sidesaddle mounts.

There is no best radar detector. There is a radar detector with the best range. There is a radar detector with the best reaction time. There is a radar detector that will give you less false alerts then other radar detectors. There is a radar detector that will tell you if the radar source is in front of you or behind. There is a radar detector that is the best at helping you determine how close you are to the radar source. The problem is that all of these best properties are not in any one radar detector.
To determine which radar detector is best for you, you need to lack which of these properties are most important to you? You also need to consider now you drive. Do you drive 5, 10, 15, 20 or more miles per hour above the speed limit? Do you drive in the middle of a pack or are you the lone wolf? Do you drive mostly in the city, suburbs or rural areas? Do you drive on the highway or on surface roads more? Are the roads that you drive on flat, hilly, straight or curved?
Each radar detector has its strengths and weaknesses. The radar detectors that I recommend the are the Escort Redline, Escort Max, Beltronics STiR+ and the Valentine One. The next lower level of protection you have Escort Smart Radar, and Escort 8500x50 Black. Any other radar detector I would not recommend.
The next issue is LIDAR protection. When your radar detector alerts to LIDAR, the police officer has already determined your speed.

While I was waiting to see what Blendmount was coming out with I came up with a temporary dash mount. Not wanting to sick anything to the dash or have the coiled cord dangling over the dash, I found that a thin material will slip under the dash trim in front of the steering wheel. I used some thin fiberglass circuit board material. Cut it slightly bigger than the opening and it will slip in from the open side. Make sure the edges are smooth so nothing gets scratched. The friction fit is very solid.
I added some Velcro and a spacer under one end of the detector to level it. The hardwired cord travels from the detector under the dash pad, exits a hole on the left side to go under the dash, and goes over to the console where it is tapped into the accessory plug-in hot lead. There is a ground stud under the cupholder.
The positioning is great. I can still see the HUD and my eyes don't need to look away when the detector goes off. I need the detector in other vehicles so, the Velcro makes removal easy and nothing has been permanently altered. The main drawback is it is in plain view. Still looking at other options but from the drivers seat this works really well.
UPDATE: Finally had a sunny day here in Wisconsin. With the rake of the windshield there was a lot of reflection of the radar detector on the glass. Somewhat annoying. The dark section leading to the HUD eliminates reflections. Still looking for other options and reports on the new Blendmount.

Why couldn't they at least leave the fuse box under the footwell since they crushed my hopes of being able to use my invisicord on the back of the mirror

Both of them up front are switched and that's where I tapped power for my Escort... Easy to do and took less than 30 minutes start to finish
