Default Onstar Tracking Question

I never had a car with OnStar so.... After reading some posts it seems that people are able to track the car as it is transported from the factory to the dealer. Is this correct? If so, what do you need in order to do that? Thanks for the help.

The tracking you are asking about is not using OnStar. The GM customer service people are pulling updates from the GM computer.

There is a thread stickied at the top that allows you to ask the status of your order.

Give them your order number and "State" e.g. RRDC2Q FL, they give you the latest info.

I think what your referring to is when you actually get your vin # and your car is built and on it's way you can call onstar to have it activated and then put the onstar app on your smartphone and you can see where your car car is by gps tracking using onstar.

Are they still doing that? I thought OnStar had stopped and because I was aware of C7s whose OnStar had been activated bore the C7 shipped arriving at dealers w/ dead batteries, I surmised that was the reason they had stopped activating OnStar before arrival at the dealership.

I was under the impression of post #4. That's why I said the CSR folks give us what they have.

Yea I really don't know. I haven't read any threads of people doing this in awhile so maybe they don't anymore.

Have the selling dealer activate OnStar account for you. Go online to OnStar, log in and sign up for "Family Link", $3.99/mo. option. I think there is a 24 hr. wait and then you can start tracking your vehicle. If you contain yourself to tracking once or twice a day your battery should be fine.

Worked fine for me, tracking from Bowling Green to Bakersfield.

Yeah, that is how it worked. Did you do this before or after New Year's Day? I ask because I can not recall anyone successfully doing in in the past few months.
