Just read in AutoWeek about GM requiring proof of purchase of the new Z-28 Camaro when you get to the parts counter and try to order some of the parts that make it the unique Z-28.
THANKS GM!!!!!!! It's about time. Someone somewhere needs to start purifying the clones / tributes / out right fakes.
I guess in a small transaction while purchasing some fuel injection harness clips for my C7 they asked for everything but my SS. Kool!
Yes it's buyer be aware. If you have ever been to like Barrett-Jackson or Mecom auctions and read the heaps of garbage that is written about the seller's gem makes you wonder. It's a Shakespearian experience.
Yes. This is a smart move for GM. A lot of fakes out there. I actually know some one with a fake Z06 (C6) with WideBody and rims. He actually tells people its a Z06 even though it has an LS2 under the hood.
They tried that with the 1996 Z28/SS when it first came out, even assigned a special build number, never worked after a couple years. The hood was suppose to be protected and only sold with proof of purchase of the SS owner, so hoods where cloned and the policy never enforced by SLP or GM. Hope this works better, as I agree they should be kept pure.....
I would never create a poser car, but I honestly couldn't care less if a car is a clone/wannabe or oem. Once the car is sold it's theirs to do with as they choose.
Who cares is someone wants to spend money to make their Camaro look/perform like a Z-28? GM would have made a bunch of money and people would have been happy to have genuine GM parts.
Now they will just go to aftermarket and GM will lose out.

I certainly haven't lost any sleep over it. You buy a car, its yours to do with as you please.
Who cares is correct. I once tried to purchase/ or order the 427 hood emblems for my '09 Z06 but was told to, "Come back with the title." How pathetic.
Not on the level of this subject but I’ve always laughed at the posers who drive a clapped out econobox and put some sort of “TURBO” label on a car that never had such an engine. Do they really think that they fool people? Don

Speaking of fakes.....ummmmm. How is your "cousin" with the new C7 doing?
Kinda like they thought prohibition was a good way to stop people from making / buying / selling / drinking alcohol... Pretty much stopped nothing, and made OTHER people LOT$ of money.

Shoot, we have a guy we a fake calloway down here. He added all the parts to his stock C6 and calls it a calloway at car shows.
