Default First Time Wax?

Maybe a silly question but, is there any length of time to wait prior to using a product like Meguiar's Tech Wax 2.0 (really like this stuff on my 2010) on a new Stingray?

That is, is there any need to wait for any drying process from the factory?

This is an old idea and may well be anachronistic, but I thought I's ask.

Thank you.

Your good to go from day one. I would suggest you wash the car with Dawn Detergent, buy and use a good Clay Bar before applying ANY polish or wax.

As a longtime CF member and charter member of the Car Polish Wars I will refrain from making any suggestions. Use Peanut Butter if it makes you happy.

Do anything you want from day one.....

Agreed, it's not about the "wax", it's about the surface prep, use clay and a good finishing polish before your last step product(wax or sealant) and you really amp up the gloss and durability....

There is a lot of info on here about this, a search will get you all the info you need.

As the others have mentioned, wash with dawn, clay bar, and polish. This is essential before any wax/sealant.

I washed, clayed, polished, and waxed my car soon after buying it. Tomorrow morning I will wash and wax it. Then after that it is wash only and a wax every 4 -6 months.

That is incredibly offensive to people with peanut allergies.

I clay bar all new cars to remove any rail dust or contaminants and then wax.

A first time wax can be very painful as all those hairs being pulled out by the roots can really hurt!

The cars are being shipped with covers on them this model year to eliminate transportation residue. This is an added expense from the manufacturer that is invisible to the end consumer, so GM must have seen the benefit of spending the extra money.

If your new car doesn't show any contaminants, I'd skip the clay bar and/or polishing step.

Don't guess if you need to clay, take the test. Put your hand in a ziplock Baggie, run it across the surface of the paint. If it feels stubbly, you need to clay. I've been detailing as a hobby for 15 years, 75% of brand new cars need clay. But use a nano skin sponge instead of clay. PM me with your email if your want non partisan step by step instruction on how to detail a new Vette the EASY way.
