Default Next Spring 2015

I'm planning on buying a fairly low mileage, base, automatic, 2LT, 2014 Stingray next Spring when I retire. Would it be reasonable to guess that I could pick one up for $45-48,000?

I think you will be able to do that. I posted this in another thread but with every hot car model I have seen there is a tipping point where resale drops rapidly. It's hard to predict when it will occur but it always happens. A in demand new model will retain great resale then almost overnight drops off 20% or more. I suspect it will happen next winter.

A good place to start looking would be one of the larger dealers who will no doubt be taking in 2014s for 2015s and Z06s. I don't think mine will be one of them though.

That sounds doable. When I picked up my 05, it was a trade in for an 06 Z06. The guy who owned it before me picked up the 05 until he could order and get the z06. You will probably find a few out there (or on here) that will be trading up to the Z06 and will get rid of their '14 models.

I hope this is the. I could afford that. I started a thread about a month ago, asking the same thing and most were saying no way so this gives me some hope.

You have to understand the Corvette family has folks that have to have the latest greatest Vette so they bought 2014 coupe. There will be many 2014 C7's traded in next year as folks start upgrading to the Z06. BTW back in 2009 I bought a $77K Z06 for $49K because the owner just had to have a ZR1.

It all depends on how much the 2015 goes up too. If the demand is there, I wouldn't be surprised if GM bumped up MSRP another 1,000-1,500 then another $800 in the spring time.

Low 50's is a reasonable expectation on a now current MSRP about $60k. You figure invoice is about $54k, take 5-10% off invoice.

Since you're looking for a A6, I'd be willing to bet they go for less than a M7 would since the A8 will be out and everyone will think it's obsolete.

Were you hoping for a Z51 with NPP, FE4? If so then no way...

I'll be fine with the base, 2LT interior, cyber grey, automatic Stingray. I saw my first live 14 Stingray last weekend in Eastern Wash. at a rest stop. I asked the lady owner if she liked her Z-51 package and she said, "No it's a Stingray." She also said she liked the 7 speed automatic because she didn't have to shift. Oh Well…….the car drew a crowd in just a few minutes. Maybe she took my Z-51 question the wrong way?

The exact car you describe started with an MSRP of about $57,500, then went up to $59,500 on March 4 with the price increase.

In spring (March/April) of 2015 it will still be just a 1 year old model, and you'd have to hope for a 1 year depreciation from MSRP of 17% - 25%, to pick one up for $45-$48k.

Then, if the car has other typical options like Performance Exhaust, Non-Standard Wheels, Non-Standard Roof, Carbon Fiber Dash, NAV, you'd have to adjust up from there.

If a car had ALL these more typical Options it would have an after March 4th MSRP pushing $66,000. It is doubtful a $66k car will depreciate to $48k in only 1 year.

The other problem is there are probably few 2LT Auto, Base, Coupes that have no other options.

My guess is the typical 2LT Coupe with Auto has an MSRP of $62k - $64k

..and the region/state you will be purchasing in plays a role too.
